TMNT II TGRI Canister

Okay everyone, I'm going to need your help. I want to make a TGRI canister and need some information from all the smart people here. I want to make this as accurate as possible, and maybe even do a run if I can get all the information.

I need to know what material was used in the hero verision of the prop. Like the end caps of the canister and the tubing part. Are the caps on the hero some sort of metal or resin? What one would be easier to make? Metal or resin?
Is the tubing plastic? Would it be cheap to make into the correct size and to find the right size and font for "TGRI"?

How long are the ovals in the canister's end cap and how many are there?
What is the width of the end caps and the actual tubing?
How long is the canister from end cap to end cap?

Heres some pictures of the canister from the movie.

So, long time ago you talk about this project.

I will try my luck...

Before I start, does anyone know what font the TGRI letters are?

I totally forgot about this. I received a production/hero used Canister from the movie. I'll put some measurements up here soon. I would love to see someone with skill take this project on if there is enough interest. I don't want to copy mine because of the agreement with the buyer not to do so, and I'll leave the font up to artistic abilities. I see this to be pretty fair.

More important is the fact that I completely forgot that the Actor who played Sark/Dillinger (David Warner) in Tron was in TMNT II as the scientist.

I got defineatly some nice fonts, what looks very cool on a TGRI Can. But nothing acurate...

The acrylic tube is no problem, but I think about the left and right part and the middle part with the letters on it. MEtal would be nice, but I think it is harder to make the correct look of the parts...

I'm so in!!! My GF just got a screen used piece from the movie and now she is on the hunt for props from it.

Well, my first try was without sizes, I just take a look on reference pics. Maybe a clue is, how big the hand in the movie are, holding the canister...

The acrylic pise is not the problem, bit the side parts, if anyone can machine metal this way it would be helpful, I try it with polystyrol and liquid acryl, but thats not a good idea, its not easy , because it can brake very easy, and will burst on too much different temperatures... So metal or resin parts would be wonderful...

i dont have the film on dvd, but some caps of it would be great, ive found a schematic of it that i had, but i need to ask the person i got it from if its ok to post.

I will say the length is 14"

Some might say the originals weren't edible in the first place! That said, I was just the right age for things like that and I did indeed have a pie once or twice. And the cereal.

As for the canister, the only help I can offer is a picture I stumbled across some time back when browsing the Technodrome.com forums. It gives a good look at the writing on the side as well as other details (looks like six cutouts on each cap). Credit and apologies if necessary to d_osborn for the image!

ive contacted d osborn, who thinks he has the full list of measurements, but he is out of town for the week.

the cheepest option is probably to find proper thickness plastic to go over the acrylic, and just do the slots ourselves

unfortuneatley, from my initial interpretation of d osborns measurements the outer cap diameter is 3.5 inches and the thickness is 1/8 making the acrylic tube 3 1/4 inches

This can be had at us plastics.com

How long must the tube be? At the moment Im looking what I can use for the end parts. I dont think that I can make metal parts or something... But I will have a look at local stores. Maybe saw the holes out from a thin plastic cap?!?

I stopped my try, because someone did a run of these here in the RPF. And because the end caps were metal, I joined the run.

I'm still happy with my canister.

If you're interested check the junkyard from time to time. Neca made also a nice tmnt 1 canister. I'm sure a canister prop from Part 2 will follow sooner or later...
