Tips for Conan The Barbarian-style costumes...

Hey, everyone. I'm interested in forming a costume similar in appearance to some items Ah-nuld wears in "Conan The Barbarian". I have a few things in mind and most of them involve fake fur.

Going by the screencaps I've seen, the boots are a simple find and all I could do to accomplish that look is find some Viking-style boots worn by reenactors (which I have) and attach some fake fur to them. Seems simple enough. Apart from the boots, I'm not exactly sure where to go from there. My costume is still in initial planning and design stages and I have no intention on it being as... revealing as some of Conan's costumes. Any thoughts?

Some of the armor bits were made from "Lamex" type butcher aprons-

You could also try the PVC pipe chain mail like the goblins wore in "Fellowship of the Ring"

If ya got the build, flaunt it. ;)
That's actually why I'm making it less revealing. I plan on working out and all that but... I know me. :D I'll work out as much as possible, however, in the interest of saving money.

I'm kinda going for something like this screencap.

Mmmm, depending on your budget, you could pick up a few coyote pelts from the black powder guys, that would match that pretty good. Or if money's tight, you could probably find an acrylic look-alike from someplace online- you'd probably never find anything that realistic at a typical fabric store. :(

Good Luck!

Coyote pelts... I'll look into that. I'm not really picky about what kinda fur, but I'm looking at something that's... fake. Been to Hobby Lobby and they have some nice stuff, but I haven't ventured to the fabric store, yet. I might go to my local fabric joint tomorrow, since I'm off.

If I were to go the route of real fur, I wonder how I could go about making something wearable, like a poncho or something. As far as I know, sewing fur or even fake fur would be a little more difficult than sewing regular cloth.

Well, it's been a couple days and I think I'm on the right track for the fur stuff. Now I'm onto the challenge of trying to attach the fur (real or fake... more than likely fake) to some footwear which looks appropriate for that "time". Trouble is, I'm not sure how to go about it. Anyone have any tips or advice for such a task?
