Which also brings to mind:

Ironically they were both issue devices from time travelling organizations. As opposed to one of a king devices crafted by gifted individuals.

I agree! Also I always find the Tardis console so much more interesting than the Tardis itself. I love how it changes with each doctor and all the crazy mechanical nonsense and controls.

The time machine from Dark is by far my favorite! It gets a lot of screen time and is absolutely beautiful

Dark is fantastic! It is a German show, so be prepared to throw on the subtitles and buckle up, because it's a ride! Also I've never heard of an Enigma machine, I'll have to look that up!

In the series, it is implied that, rather than normal vacuum bulbs, these contain some kind of exotic material or energy that can not exist in anything but a vacuum. The bulbs themselves generate the massive energy to power time travel.
