Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

the patch thing i noticed a long time ago

and actually i think the hat he has is the same only with the silk burnt off
cause the on atop the maypole didn't have a hatband
which is in fact checkered, not polka dotted
(dont say Pole-dancer pole, there having a May day Festival, its an old English tradition done on the first of May)

not to mention the flower pin changes as well
when its in the courtyard on the Red Queens castle it looks way different

and Hatter dose in fact does through a pair of scissors at Styans Hand
and if you listen when he pokes Styan in the eye with the pin, Stayn squeals like a little girl

and Panda and i have named Stayns horse Bubbles

The hat atop the 'may pole' has a pink hatband. It actually has hatpins in it too ( even though the hat he puts on at the end of that scene doesn't... ). His hat in that scene is shiny and flat ( no punchout pattern ) like a classic beaver pelt top hat and good eye with the checkered band!

Just watched the scene again, definitely not the same hat. As opposed to the brown beaver pelt with pink checkered band ( with a bow on the side ), the one he puts on his head at the end of the scene is the paisley print with solid pink band fully adorned with the patches and card in it ( just no pins ). Whether it's the hat from atop the may pole, I guess we'll never know until we can get a clear screenshot ( it's too dark on my comp :( ... but you do see it burning seconds later )

The WQs crown here is also identical to the RQs but with diamonds instead of rubies in the hearts as opposed to her platinum one with turquoise jewels in it at the end...maybe that was the result of Chess carrying it? :lol

Not that the origin of the hats or crowns particularly matters to costumers anyways. :lol Just thought I'd point out some things I noticed. :)

The flower pin, I think stays the same, but as opposed to being on a pin in the courtyard scene, for some reason it's flat against the hat...maybe it just got bent in the toss? :lol Or...looking at it now...maybe along with the upward flower, the hat went mad and decided to reverse itself. Yes, that is indeed the case. It also mysteriously has tails even though it's not tied! A magical hat, indeed.

Notice the back of the hat is what the viewer sees ( obvious by the seam ) and the pins are on the right side of it and the peacock pin on the left. >_<

What they need...what Disney REALLY needs...is a fanatic to watch their movies 10x before it's released to check consistency errors like this. *coughcough*ME! :D *cough*

Personally I think its ridiculous, any time I have had need of a miniature something or other I always look at the model fervently to ensure a direct likeness.

Principal filming of this movie took 40 days, maybe they were all just being Lazy. (Not Colleen though, that girl is straight up OG)

It seems like common sense, doesn't it Chad? To reference the original no matter what medium you're replicating it in.

As they say, common sense is not that common, I suppose.

Oh, did anyone see the other little Q&A with Colleen where she talks about finding the paisley laser cut leather in Italy and the hand painted stars on the inside? I love that she elaborated about the hat, particularly the inside because there's a scene where Alice sleeps underneath it. I'm so happy she took that scene into consideration when putting the star fabric on the interior, and so disappointed that they didn't utilize it better in the actual film ( it was indeed described in the original script ). :(

ok lest just narrow it down to this

Terrant wears a hat
ok were done XP

(and thanks for the complement, i just notice that crap subconsciously XP)

but yeah the inconsistent bits and parts of this costume are enough to drive me up a wall

and yeah i worded that wrong
its the same flower pin, jut at a way different angle

and i dont really want to call that hat brown, it had to much red in it to be a real brown, more like an adobe brown
im making that one by the way
cause i can BWAHAHAHAH!!
Velveteen here i come

Ms. Atwood's exact quote regarding MH hat.

In designing the Hatter's costume, Atwood began, unsurprisingly, with his hat. ``The hat's based on a real hat shape of the period. It's just exaggerated and stretched out. I found this leather in Italy that was laser-cut in a weird pattern that looked like it had been burnt, just by chance, and I said, 'Oh, the Hat could be made out of this stuff,' and then I had it made by a milliner in London who's a great hat maker.

Let me see! Ramiel is in Rome! Perhaps he can hunt down the REAL leather for us! Rameil? What say you mate!!!!?

If I can find a little more info I can try to track it down!;)
It would be fun!

Could it have been a milliner in Rome who had the leather? Possibly our friends who made the CJS hat? Although, why go to a different hat maker in London if the leather source is from a milliner.

Ok so I have succesfully managed to make part of my costume change color more or less on command. Now if I can just find the money to do the entire coat I'll be in business. . .

I always figured the leather was custom...Can't beleive it's a found item!!!! :D

By found I meen not custom. LOL.
