The character designs are quite different from the original series, but they are all still instantly recognizable. I am happy with this new look and I am hoping all the voice actors will be able to invoke the spirit of the beloved characters.

Oh, wow. I like those designs a lot honestly. Very anime inspired, but it looks like a nice modern interpretation of the characters. Any idea when the show premieres?

No tentative date yet, late 2011 is what was supposedly mentioned at the event.

There was also a video footage for two minutes showcasing all other character designs (Kittens, Snarf, Slithe and Mumm-Ra), including interviews with the cast. Snarf and mummy Mumm-Ra were closer to the classic design, while the Kittens were revamped.

I have to say this actually looks pretty good. See this is the sort of thing Transformers should have been lol.

Transformers+Anime= No Thanks :thumbsdown

True the anime ones have been...odd. I just meant they should have gotten an updated animated treatment for a movie and not the crapfest we got. Transformers animated was a good try until Hasbro yanked the rug out from under them (and is preventing season 3 hitting dvd).

Cheetara there looks a bit underage to be having that much attention being drawn to that cleavage, hahah!

Sorry these cats look quite younger than the old cartoon. Not a big fan of the big anime eyes, but the overall style looks good!

Also would it have killed the person to take a couple more steady photos? Always the first images that come through on something always have to have that authentic blurry look... :p

It is so anime like maybe it is an anime outright and not just animated in Japan. They look like early 20s in this movie and like early 30s in the show lol. I'm just wondering if it's going to hit theatres or just dvd.

I like it. the look is close enough to the original to recognize and the ages look closer to what they should be. Lion-o was just a kid and Panthero was much older. I always thought ofCheetara in her late 20s and Tygra in his late 30s early 40s.

Photography was apparently strictly prohibited, but he managed to quickly capture some video and these images are video stills. We are just glad to have some images for now. Hopefully better images and video will turn up soon, if not we have to wait until next month for Toy Fair in New York.

wow, I like many wasn;t sure about the new reboot, b ut this looks promising. The toys look great. Guess I know already what my son will be wanting for Christmas.

Official Press Release

Roaring to life through WBA and Studio4°C’s use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, “ThunderCats” characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.

The new “ThunderCats” will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise. A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost – takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode.

“ThunderCats” is executive produced by Sam Register (“Teen Titans,” “Ben 10,” “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”). Michael Jelenic (“Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” “Wonder Woman”) and Ethan Spaulding (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”) are the producers.

So Chetara is now Emo, and Panthro is a barbarian cross between The Beast and Hulk? And I thought Lion-O was supposed to have aged on the journey? Here he looks like a teenager with animé hair, what's the odds his voice will be cast as young/high-pitched?
I do like how they all seem to be drawn with the suggestion of fur, rather than bare skin.
