Thor 2 Hammer - The Dark World

After completing the Thor Avengers hammer (click here to view), I got started on the Thor 2 Dark World Hammer.
The new handle for Mjolnir I think looks great & I new it was going to be a challenge to make. I had seen a few picks showing a silver finish but also other picks showing a bronze finish.

Drawing the new end cap in my cad took many, many attempts before I was happy with the final design.


From there I broke the design into pieces that then could be made from moulds

For the 1st cold casting I used hard resin & aluminium powder



I then sanded, buffed & polished the part, the leather I had was absolute top quality, the colour & thickness was perfect. This was then hand stitched to create what I think is a pretty good handle



But, after that I decided to try & make a lighter metal finish & also a bronze/gold one. Both of these took a few test samples to get the colours right, especially the gold/bronze one, man that was a tricky one.



But I have to say they look great, I think they both will really jump when I add the leather & the final touches to the end cap.

Ooh! These are awesome!! Looks great! I wonder, has the hammer itself changed much at all in the new movie? I think it looks a little darker in some shots floating around, though I could be wrong.

I have been working on a few of the hammer heads, this time I changed the way I finish them. Here is the 1st one.


I have just started putting the leather on the bronze/gold handle


I still have a few things left to do but they are getting there.

This is amazing! The detail in the handle is incredible! If you open up a junkyard thread for this do u think you'll sell the handle and butt separately?

I hadn't really planned to sell the handles on their own, due to they are pretty time consuming to finish. But we will see.

If u were to consider handles on their own I'd love one, I could do the leather work myself so keep me posted if u do a run. It's beautiful work, well done man!

just finished assembling/stitching the gold/bronze handle.

Honestly at the start I didn't think the gold/bronze would work. but I actually really like it...

That looks absolutely amazing! But I gotta ask, is it only the rings and the guard that attaches to the hammer that are supposed to be bronze? Isn't the pommel still silver-ish, or silver with bronze markings? I can't tell which is better... maybe a combination of the bronze/gold handles with the silver pommel?

No each end cap is cold cast moulded using poly resin. If you had access to a 3d printer you could do it pretty easily, it would just depend on the finish/strength you were after
