This R2 unit has a bad motivator - look!

Whew. After many, many weekends of work, plenty of cursing, and a couple-glued fingers I finally got R5 in a state that shows off his true self.

I weathered him Tatooine style and finally got all the motor drives installed and running. Next up is the fun stuff of automating some of his panels. But at least now he drives, talks, and moves.

This guy has several bad motivators.

And the 2 droid buddies taking a break after a hard day of fixing starship hyperdrives. :)

Looks great. Your quote just made me think of something I hadn't really thought about before and don't know if it's been discussed. Why is it and R5 unit and Luke refers to it as an R2 unit? Is he misinformed, stupid or is it film/marketing flub?

Thanks all. I made this R5 droid pretty interchangeable too. The red stripes on the body are just vinyl tape. So I can easily take it off and revert back to another R2 model. The dome is also kept on with magnets, so interchanging heads is pretty easy, almost like a mr. potato head. :lol Now if I can get that R3 head finished, he can change between R2, R5, and R3.

Scott, I used the prismatic reflective tape from identi-tape.com. I simply like the look of it over the bubbles.
You can get some here, I also got the adhesive vinyl tape there too.

steveo, I saw the same thing. I think they now say Luke was simply confused (or just stupid). It would of been funny if they fixed that in the special edition: "Uncle Owen, this [insert another guys voice] R5 [end of guys voice] has a bad motivator, look". :lol
