Things you're tired of seeing in movies

Our heroes are rushing to save the day, when all of a sudden, the villains, out of nowhere, spring a trap. Be it a side swiping snow plough into their car or similar… but wait, how long has it taken the villains to set up this dastardly plot point? in Real world, the
Unsure whether it's been mentioned, but it is a new pet peeve of mine concerning CGI effects, similar to the one I posted at the early days of this thread. Whenever a CGI creature roars, the neck flaps like crazy. Anyone who has seen any living being can see that when they produce those kinds of sounds, their neck muscles tense up and goes tight to really force the sound out. Any sort of jiggling or flapping would not be able to produce such a sound. It looks stupid. It is unnatural and unrealistic, so animators should STOP animating it on every roaring or screaming CGI creation!

Heck... it might not hurt if they or the director who makes the decision goes out into the real world to see how it actually works.
Don’t forget the throwing of the arms out to the side as they roar. You know The move. Hulk. Kong. They all do it. I’m sure if the T rex had more than stumpy little forearms, it would do the same.

Not just the weight, but the balance as well. Is the sword weighted more towards the hilt, or is it more tip heavy? This is important because depending on the type of sword and whether its supposed to be more cut centric or thrust centric will determine where the point of balance should be. Something meant to be a cutter or chopper (like most sabers) you want the point of balance a few inches or so forward of the hilt and feel more tip heavy. Something more thrust centric like a rapier would need to be balanced much closer to the hilt so that the tip feels lighter and more agile.

A grand list of fantasy cliches:
Bonus points for taking the Small World/Universe trope to ridiculous levels, like Star Wars has managed.

How this massive one for almost every anime ever made: The schoolgirl look. I assume the Japanese culturally have a massive thing for the look, but I have never understood it.

10 trailers before the movie starts. It was welcome and exciting in the days before the internet but now it's gotten so tiresome to watch trailers I've already seen multiple times. I got into the habit of purposely showing up 5 minutes late to showtimes just to avoid them. Doesn't always work.

I don't mind the trailers. What I really can't stand is all that other awful filler e.g. the movie trivia quizzes, the ads for TV shows featuring actors talking about their characters, junk food animation, sing-a-long soda ads, the PSA telling me to shut off my phone, Maria Menounos...

Oh man, that pre-movie show(?) she hosts is terrifically uninteresting.

I don't think they show them anymore but also those Coke ads made by aspiring young filmmakers. Yes, your closeup of the soda dispenser pouring into the ice-filled cup is groundbreaking stuff. Here's your Oscar, now go away.

And of course followed by the 456356 production company logos, all that crap wastes time to the point that the kid that was manning the popcorn stand is now halfway to retirement age.

How many times have you heard someone say to the locals "How come you don't speak English?" when you were in a foreign country?

Actually, I've heard it in my own country when I visited Quebec.
I've heard many Spanish-speaking people here in the US, going into business and being upset that nobody there speaks Spanish. It's quite common these days.
When I was in France, I talked with someone who spoke English and we discussed tourists who don't even try to speak French. He said he'd been to the US and said, "I don't think it's different than Spanish speakers in your country demanding others speak their language."

Perhaps it where is the US you're situated. Granted, places in the southern US, especially those bordering Mexico will have more bilingual speakers. Several times when I was in Arizona and southern California, I had many people that came up to me and spoke Spanish, but never in the US mid west. Don't most schools in the US teach Spanish or is that an elective subject? I don't think that Spanish speakers would demand that everyone speak Spanish, but in bordering states, perhaps they have that unrealistic expectation.

I'm from western Canada, and even though Canada is a country with two official languages, most people outside Quebec speak English. There are French communities in western Canada that do have a French background, but I've never been approached by anyone expecting that I speak French. Now when I cross that border into Quebec, that expectation from the locals goes up considerably.

But I've never heard the words "How come you don't speak French/Spanish?" from anyone.

Another thing. Tired of seeing Vikings depicted as 20th Century bikers.

Unsure whether it has been mentioned before. It's just a pet peeve of mine. Black dyed clothes just didn't exist back then.

As if that's not bad enough Vikings are also depicted as brutish and unclean. In fact the Vikings were known for being the cleanest, most hygienic Europeans at that time.
