Long time lurker... and now, maybe I can start a thread.
Along time ago I used to build Star Wars props. And now I am getting a feeling to re-do a prop I did a long time ago... The Thermal Detonator as used by Boushh (Princess Leia) in Return of the Jedi. As I said... RE DO. I had sold the last castings a few years back and the molds. But I decided to try it again, even after being ridiculed for my lack of proper dimensions. Time healed this wound, quite well. My original prop was made from 2.75" hemispheres, and I didn't know that there was a red light by the switch. Instead of modifying what I had, it went into the vault to be forgotten and collect dust, and then sold.
With the new information I collected, I still have some questions... mostly about two areas of the detonator. The proper size of the gap between hemispheres, and the correct hole sizes. For all LEDS.
I NOW KNOW: The hemispheres are 2.5" in diameter.
My guess are the three LEDs in the mid-section are about 3mm in diameter, and the large red LED is about 5mm in diameter.
The plating was silver on top of brass, distressed with brown paint fleckings.
What I don't know:
The gap between the two hemispheres my guess is that it is about 1/2" between the longer "teeth" of the hemispheres.
On the switch : what there a kit bashed tank tread on it? and does anyone know what kit it might have been from.
The red lens - what this a found item, and from what did it come from?
The groove on the hemisphere plates: Some pictures it looks like a gap, others a deep scribe line. Which is more accurate?
I am not sure if I will completely scratch build or CAD and Objet the thing... but we'll see. Electronics? Not sure yet. Though it appears that the lighting sequence of the three white lights is EXACTLY like the Vader chest box light sequence.
Can anyone help me out? Or point me in the right direction?
Thank you in advance!
