Thread Title Edit. Is it still possible?

Hello overworked and underpaid RPF Staff!

Quick question...I usually have no trouble editing thread titles and have been doing it regularly here.
Today I tried to update a thread title in the Prop forum and it didn't take? Has this function been disabled?

I did try it a few times and don't 'think' I goofed it up...Suggestions?

Thanks in advance, and keep up the great work!:thumbsup

Nothing has been changed, so you should still be able to edit the title of your thread. What thread are you having problems with?

Re: Thread Title Edit. Is it still possible?

When you edit you have to edit then "go advanced" on the first post in the thread.

Re: Thread Title Edit. Is it still possible?

LordFett,
Yup! I did that. Unless I goofed it somewhere this time...I did try it a few times though but no luck.

This thread here:
http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=57173

I edited the thread title and it did change within the posts but not the main title as it's visible in the forum...did I do something wrong?
Seeing as the thread was started by my husband DAVIDYR1, I logged in under his screen name to make the title change so we could update people publicly here too.

This is what I was hoping the title would be on the main forum:
Licensed Batman Related Leather Goods. Production is on Schedule. UPDATE 1/28

I honestly dont know what I did wrong.:$
Thanks for your time.

That is strange... that main thread title is not changing. Let me look into this.

EDIT: That was strange, but I was able to edit the title using a different method and it worked. :)

Re: Thread Title Edit. Is it still possible?

That's great, thank you for all your help.

I'll let you know if anything like this happens again... I've been given the 'thread update' gig so from time to time I'll be editing and updating. Hope it's all good now. :)

Thanks again Montagar! Seriously appreciated!

As mentioned in the first post, there does seem to be an intermittent problem with editing thread titles. We are looking into the problem.

This thing also happened the last time the forum changed - actually, when they switched servers. It got fixed back then, so, it should be fixable! .)

Unable to change prefixes in Junkyard

While trying to update some old threads in the JY, I went into the Advanced editing page to change the prefix to "SOLD/DONE," but I couldn't get the drop box to appear to change it. Is this a bug or am I just having problems on my end? I'm currently running Firefox 3.6 to view the site...

Thanks in advance!

Re: Unable to change prefixes in Junkyard

Noted, thanks for pointing out that thread, LF!

Re: Unable to change prefixes in Junkyard

Guys... I am just not seeing this or able to recreate the issue. I have created threads using a standard member account (just like yours) to create threads in this forum as well as the Junkyard.

I was able to edit both the thread title and prefix by going into the thread, clicking edit then clicking Go Advanced. Please give this a try (feel free to make a couple of test threads if you like) and let me know if you are still unable to make these changes.

Re: Unable to change prefixes in Junkyard

Hey Art,
Thread titles are still unable to be edited.
Here is what happens, I'll use this example.

Say I added new pics to a thread and wanted to edit the thread title to reflect the date of that change. For examaple, "New pics added 2-24-10"

I go to the first post of the thread.
Click edit. Click go advanced. I edit the thread title to what I want it to say. And click save changes.

It works for that first post only. But when you look a the thread itself, it does not reflect the change. It only takes place in the first post.

Hope that makes sense.

Re: Unable to change prefixes in Junkyard

It seems to be hit and miss for me. I have no problem editing a few of my thread prefixes and titles, but for instance, I can't edit this one:
http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?p=964561

I've already done the "Go Advanced" route to try editing the prefix, but I cannot get the box to show up. I also have the same problem as GINO describes, with being able to change the text of the title, but it doesn't reflect it in the active/show topic post.

unable to edit headline of a thread!?

Hello staff

While editing a thread of mine in the JY, I found that the changed healine/ title won´t appear once saved!?

Please take a look at the following thread:
http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=52359

Compare the actual title (starting with ROTJ EE-§...) with the -edited- one (starting with Riddick knifes...), when you open it.
What did I do wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Markus

Re: ** There does appear to be an intermittent problem with editing thread titles.

Markus, we have been struggling with this one for a while, and as you can see from the posts above, I have not been able to replicate the problem... but thanks to your post, I think I now know what the issue is...

Most of the settings in vBulletin allow you to apply a "0" to disable the feature. However, for whatever reason, the "Time Limit on Editing of Thread Title" option doesn't work that way and if you set it to 0, it keeps members from being able to edit their thread title at all.

We set the limit to 259200 minutes which works out to 180 days... you see where this is going already, right? This is why I haven't been able to replicate the issue... because all of my threads were new. I have changed the setting to 2,628,000 which works out to 5 years. Hopefully this will take care of the problem!
