The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

Btw….here’s how to deal with getting Flat Ribbon Cable through round holes……..once split into groups (not all the way to the ends) and heat shrink, then temporarily roll/curl the ends to pass through the round holes, then re flatten the ends.

When heat shrinking …never stay long in 1 spot, move along the length evenly with the heat gun…. otherwise the heat may melt the insulation of the Flat Ribbon if it is to HOT which might cause shorts or intermittent problems……However this method is used in industry with experience.

Hey ok now that looks like it can be bundled up quite small. I was a little worried about how to get through this step, but this is giving me some hope.
Ive ordered everything I think I need for this project, and the first of the supplies arrives later today including the ribbon cable (y)

IF ……you make the attempt to make this sort of cable….you’ll have to pick a count of where you’ll make your group splits. You’ll have to use an exacto blade to begin the splits.

There’s two ways to go about splitting…

One is you use the exacto and try to maintain splitting down the length of the cable without cutting into the insulation of the individual wires ….or you start a split with the exacto and hand tear down the length of the cable ….if you know what I mean.

Remember…do not split all the way to the ends…tape off at the ends where you think you should stop splitting…so know when to stop splitting. If you split through to the ends….No Bueno…you might as well make wrist bracelets with wire groups….

Nothing here. I'll wait.

Thrift store finds are more enjoyable than prorders.

I like a stroll or two through the thrifts myself….but be cautioned on what you buy…especially antiques. I’ve seen enough on “caught on camera” and also been told by first hand experiencers. There are paranormal entities that attach themselves to the objects and when you buy and take the object home with you…before you know it strange things are happening at your home…..;)

Got a second strap for my Tricorder. This one is a dual colour one with one side black and the other a biscuit brown. The colour is similar to one of the screen straps though it doesn't have a reddish tint to it. It's close enough in tone for me though. The bonus is that the Tricorder it was used on in the show has the thicker handle on it rather than the original slot ones.
It was slightly too wide so I just trimmed it where it enters the body. I also shortened the length compared to the original so it is more comfortable for me to wear. The original was too long for me as the top rested against my hip. Now the top is resting at around waist height which feels more natural. I doubt there was consistency on the show as to where it rested.

Has anyone figured out how to keep the clock screen up? I keep my Tricorder on my desk plugged in, and get tired of having to push a button every 10 minutes to keep the clock visible.
I sent Wand Co an email with this question and got reply the next day as follows:

Steven,

Thanks for your email. You are not missing anything. However, it is a good suggestion that few peopler have made so we will be looking at how we can implement that functionality and roll it in to a patch update we are working on, if it isn't too risky.

Thx

Chris

News to me they are actively …..”roll it in to a patch update we are working on” that means user access through the USB-C….. imo.

It would be nice if they included activating the MSDC slot…expedited because of the B&M that people have done….including me :)
