The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

Looks like there are three MR tricorders on fleabay right now, ranging from $1K to $1.5K. I can't see any way to tell how long they've been up, but I've been seeing them at least a week. I'll be very surprised if they move at those prices. I wouldn't give you $100 for one.
Why only $100? I always thought it was a decent replica.

Because tariffs notwithstanding, the Wand is by orders of magnitude a superior replica at $350. Although admittedly with the tariffs, anything below $850 is theoretically the clearing price for an MR (until the tariffs go away or at least come down), but that's without discounting for the difference in quality, which I can't quantify. My suspicion is that the Wand is why the MRs aren't moving.

I get that - So your saying I missed my window to sell off my MR Tricorder for a fortune? LOL
I agree this Wand Tric is amazing especially at the price their trying to hit (Pre-Tariffs)

At least until the tariffs come down, the MR still has some life, but not at >$850 IMO. Hard to say where the sweet spot is, as I said, given the vast difference in features. If and when the tariffs come down, the value of the MR will plummet for sure--but that may not be reflected in fleabay asking prices. Hope springs eternal. :)

Not saying how old I might be when I get one, but dayum... :p

I assume that there are collectors not on forums that may not know TWC is coming. The sellers are hoping to sell to them.

I had an MR and liked it at the time. I sold it when I needed a new laptop years ago.

However, TWC is one that will be passed on to my progeny upon my death.

Yeah, the information problem in economics is always there. Economic theory assumes "perfect" information. And yeah, the MR was great in its day, but the Wand has truly knocked it of its perch.

My wife has standing instructions to sell my Wand props as a complete "Exploration Set" if I kick first. :)

There are rabid collectors of MR itself.... as opposed to collectors of replicas that might happen to be MR.

Hey, I was spelunking through Andrew Stockdale's Instagram posts, and lookee what I found!

Well, that's annoying.. It was playing live in the preview. Anyway, there's now a little blank micro-SD card with a Starfleet Engineering logo on it to fill the slot on the side of the hood. Nifty!

EDIT--and now it's there again. Weird.

I'm lost. The slot is not used, then, but it's too late and baked into the design?
The slot was used during the development process to load software into the tricorder. My understanding is that later in development they were able to switch that process to the USB-C connector on the back. However, retooling the hood to get rid of the slot would be monumentally expensive and increase the price of the product, so they left the slot in place. (Since the little plastic blank goes in and out just like a real SD card, I surmise that the card reader is still in there.)

The tool for making the hood and battery holder has 207 precision-machined parts, some of which slide in and out during the shot. It's very much a nontrivial undertaking to redo it.

This is a partial rendering of the tool. The vast majority of the parts are not shown.
