The Walking Dead Season 3

One problem is the the zombies are no longer scary. They swat them like mosquitoes.

I also find this to be an issue. I understand after a year they'd become adept at killing, but the skull crushing bat hits remind me of the Andrew Dice Clay movie "Brain Smasher Love Story". Bones don't soften up like that even after death.

Whatever happened to the herds? That seemed like a serious threat.

I understand that "The Walking Dead" is supposed to reference the survivors according to some, but this show is starting to feel more and more like a remake of "Lost" with occasional zombies. If I wanted to watch a show about overly complicated relationships, annoyingly deliberate deception, and sophmoric drama I'd be watching "One Tree Hill" or something similar. I came here to watch zombies and people attempting to survive.

He survived up in the mountains, there was a sign in the start of the episode about a mountain and a girl named Erica I think, when you see the backpacker he's wearing a bracelet that says her name on it.

If memory serves, it was a zombie girl wearing a necklace with "Erica" on it not the backpacker. Although you may be right about him surviving in a secluded national park. There aren't a lot "mountains" in this part of Georgia though.

I wonder how that backpacker survived all this time. He must not have been alone. What if he was from a town like Woodbury, but without a crazy governor, just lots of food, weapons, and blurays. Oh well, maybe they should have stopped.

I wondered how the backpacker survived at all with that cling clangy cooking pan dangling from his backpack. :rolleyes

My problem with them not even checking the hiker out is he could have been someone they needed like, oh, I don't know.... an actual doctor or even a nurse? Hershel's done a pretty good job keeping the crew in one piece, but he's just one guy.

But, in case you've forgotten, Rick hasn't been in a very rational state of mind lately and while he may no longer be totally nuts he's still has more than a few bats up in his belfry. You also have to figure that there's a certain amount of survivor's mentality going on, not wanting to form new friendships or bonds for fear of seeing the person getting killed. This was the sort of mentality that soldiers often develop during war when fresh reinforcements join their unit after they've been fighting for a long time, nobody befriends the new guy until he's survived at least a few engagements and they know that he's not going to just die in his first firefight and might be worth spending to actually getting to know them. Could be the same thing going on here, they've already lost more than a few members of their group and that's got to make it hard for them to want to take one new people, esp. for Rick who probably feels very responsible for every loss and is probably very reluctant to let more people in for him to be responsible for.

Re: Re: The Walking Dead Season 3

I couldn't agree more ... When the group loses their humanity whats the point of surviving anymore?

I agree with that to a point. But when everyone is a potential threat, how do you pick and choose the good from the bad. There was that one scene when Tyrese and his group were in the prison, and his buddy was talking how easily they could overtake Carl and the gang and just steal their supplies. If it wasn't for Tyrese saying no, they could have taken everything if they wanted to. Its a tricky situation. Sure you may keep all of your humanity intact, but it does you no good if it gets you killed. But of course I am talking from a comfy chair in an office, who knows what would happen if I was in this type of situation.

I think the next step would be rebuilding a functional society without being the Gov. - maybe Rick and the group have still to move sooner or later and find a rest of the government and maybe another CDC scientist has made progress. AFAIK, Jenner witnessed a so called "vectorization" between the bacterial(?) stems, which means some DNA infos are exchanged between them. Maybe later they find, that some humans are immune to the pandemic, maybe little ass-kicker holds the answer…

In the first episode of this season, they mention multiple large groups of walkers they've been trying to avoid when trying to figure out what direction to go, hence the reason why they'd been going in circles throughout winter (it's before Rick and Daryl find the prison).

Re: Re: The Walking Dead Season 3

Rick is back to his normal self. He will be making more of an effort to bring others into the fold after this, I think.

I have a feeling Tyrese and some of his company might be joining. I wonder what will happen after the fight. Will Woodbury be destroyed? Because if they can defeat the Gov, it would be a great place for them to be.

I won't disagree, but Tyreese's guy just lost his wife and wasn't thinking straight. Luckily Tyreese qwelled the idea because they were in a locked area without guns. Carl and gang would've easily ended them.

Humans have always been the most dangerous animal on Earth. I don't see how adding zombies changes that ... But it's about more than just surviving.

Much like with the prisoners; first you try then you trust. But I do hope that when the Woodbury battle is over Rick gains many new folks and the Gov gets eaten.

While it would be nice to see Rick & co. finally getting another real break and being able to settle into a place like Woodbury I just don't see it happening from a story/show standpoint. I'm not sure that you could make the story continue to be as interesting or compelling if you just had them settle into Woodbury, you do that and it starts to be less about survival and more soap opera type drama that some are complaining about. I think that in order for the show to keep on going and remain interesting something has to happen so that Rick & gang can't just move into Woodbury and live happily ever after. Either Woodbury is compromised or they beat the Governor and somebody else takes over but doesn't let Rick & gang stay.

As far as moving around goes, I believe even though it would be a better story, looking at it from AMC's point, it's probably cheaper for them to keep the group in one area (IE prison or Woodbury or even back to where Morgan is fortified) than to keep making new sets etc... I believe in the long run, they will hunker down for at least a season or two at a time than move on.

I agree! They must move on! If the next season they decide to remain in prision or to go to Woodbury the show probably will become boring. Discover new places and new enemies keep the show always interesting.

One more thing....I know that everybody hates the Governor, and he will probably die but I hope he can survive this season and come back in the future....that will be a interesting twist

I would love to have seen them make the prison home a bit more than they were able to before the gov was in the picture. Kinda like they did in the comic. These are people trying to survive. I want to see them try to rebuild. I want to see them go out on runs. Complex runs. Not like Daryl and Maggie going to get formula. More like Shane and Otis going to get the medical supplies.

It is a crazy world out there. Show it.

That's why I don't think that it would work, from a story perspective, to have Rick & gang settle all nice and peacefully in Woodbury, there would be too little tension and too little of them surviving and rebuilding if they did. The only way that it would work is if Woodbury gets nearly gest overrun and gets trashed so that it's lees like Mayberry and more like the prison in that it's tough inside and they still have to worry about food and other supplies.
