The Umbrella Academy

The first season was great. It showed the childhood trauma that the kids had how they were managing coming to terms with it. This season there was no redemption, no closure, just oh apocalypse, apocalypse, apocalypse! There were so many plot holes I couldn't keep track. Oh and the love story with 5, ugh WHY?! Honestly it could have ended after season 2 and I would have been happy.

This...

Did they go beyond the source material ?

I finished ep5 last night.. I don’t even know what I’m watching.. totally lost interest

Can’t believe this is what we got

Like others said, they should have stopped with season 2..

Wait I have no idea why that came out so dirty, or what saying I was going for

Please don’t pull me to finish

So “I pulled my self to the finish line last night” after I finished the series

Wow.. i really always try and stay positive.. but these was complete trash..

Spoilers ahead…

When they regained their powers why did Luther turn back into an ape? His powers had nothing to do with a ape body, and he only got his ape body because he was going to die and the father used pogo blood stuff to save him, rebuilding his body into a ape hybrid

I was figuring that would be an explained, it’s too big of a plot hole to go un answered… up not explained

Squid girl? What? Where to start? I give up.. I thought she was a alternate universe Ben.. being created from a squid.. nope.. I still don’t even know her role..

Five affair? It had zero impact on the story except cause confusion.. in the end it did nothing to build anything.. I don’t not get what they are thinking..

The mother being gene the whole time? Wtf? No… I don’t understand.. doesn’t make sense.. I’m so confused..

The sparrows? I was waiting for them to show up in the tunnels and help or something.. Luther’s wife never explained.. seems like he moved on quick and it doesn’t bother him at all.. strange behavior to me.. he seemed even “dumber” this season which I think hurt his character

The ending? Wtf? By far the worst ending I’ve ever seen to a series.. I was never a game of thrones fan, and I remember all the backlash that series got.. I wonder how UA season 4 stacks up to game of thrones ending..

Lost season 6 was a disappointment for me, but it still made sense..

This season… I don’t follow any of it.. I’ve watch YouTube videos early this morning and some guys I’ve followed.. they still can’t make any sense of it..

Wicked wicked disappointing.. a lot of missed opportunity’s..

I’m completely amazed at how terrible this is.. by far the worst thing I’ve ever seen
You obviously not seen...

Big Meat Eater

Aliens
Fez Hats
Whisks
Flying Saucers... It's a classic, think Plan 9 from Outer space without the Bela!

I don't think it's as bad as that. I've seen far worse. I just don't understand what they hoped to accomplish. In fact, I don't know why they made the last two seasons at all.

Seconded...

I think we have all seen shall we say unintentionally bad content.
The issue here is the decline in the series, the story just ran out of steam.
It's not like we are watching a low budget SciFi /Syfi channel show (which gave us some great shows by the way)

Anyway I've got the last episode to watch.
It will all become clear and Sir Reg the Alien will hopefully finally be explained.

Good luck on that. Unfortunately, far too many good shows, or at least shows that started out good, have no clue where they're going. That's bad showrunning. Therefore, they just keep doing the same thing over and over again, in hopes of recapturing former glories. It never works.

Well the last ep was a real mess...
Only 5 got a semi although disjointed story arc, he should have ported out the goo but I guess then they'd be right back where they started..
The Space gizz part seemed tacked on..

So old reggie was an alien who fled his planet I give up trying to make sense of it all especially the whole being absorbed by a pus monster..

I thought some of the storylines were pretty rushed by the end, but overall I thought the final season was, you know, fine. It wasn't amazing, but it was fine as a wrap-up.

Thing is, I've seen this kind of ending before in other media, so it was less impactful for me. It's an interesting trick, but ultimately, having seen it done elsewhere, it doesn't land as hard. I think part of that is because things were rushed. That's more on Netflix not giving them 10 episodes, though. I think with more room to breathe, some of the storylines of this season would've landed better and less in a "Where the hell did THAT come from?!" way.

6 eps was perfect. Some series just don't need any more and this last season was far better than the prior.

Great ending as well. A bunch of borderline competent misfits accepted their roles and
died
doing what they needed to do rather than run away from everything. You don't see such definitive
sacrifices
like that with antagonists like that often. Especially with all of them.

To me, the ending was reminiscent of two specific bits of media I've consumed in recent years. I'm gonna spoiler text this because, not only is it a spoiler for this show, it's spoilers for the other media.

This one is for a video game.

In one of the mythic paths in the game Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, you play as an entity of pure cosmic order. Your own presence is discovered, ultimately, to be a violation of that order, so you basically "delete yourself" from the timeline entirely, and in the closing credits, find out how everyone's lives played out with you having never been created.

And this one's for a different TV show.

In the German show Dark, it's ultimately revealed that two characters exist improperly, and their existence essentially causes a time-loop of ultimate misery and pain and apocalypse. So, they basically go back to the original moment that triggers the development of this time-loop, and prevent it from ever happening, thereby ensuring that they're never born. I thought that the version shown in that series was a lot more poignant and meaningful, but it was also only 3 seasons and while confusing with wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey stuff, it wasn't full of the batsh** insane wackiness that Umbrella Academy was.

Overall, I dug the series and dug the ending, but the show itself was so nuts that by the end, I couldn't remember what had happened, except only vaguely, so I think it hit less hard.

I know I’m probably extremely late to the party, but I was today’s year old when I learned that Gerard Way created and wrote the source material for The Umbrella Academy, as well as was a producer on the show and had numerous songs featured.
I knew him as the singer of My Chemical Romance. To say I was shocked today was an understatement.

His redition of Hazy Shade of Winter from season one is in constant rotation on my usual playlist.
