The Topknot Build. New photos of torso life cast build. 05/07/2015

I came to this thread to check out the elevated feet build, and I spent a good hour reading through this thread trying to catch up.  As others have stated before me, every aspect of this build is so incredible and inspiring.  I will also be following this thread eagerly and can't wait to see this suit finished.  Brilliant work, and thanks for sharing your progress!

WOW Jeff....I haven't checked up on this in awhile now but Topknot's head is proving to be just as unique and creative as the rest of him. The mandibles look powerful just like the quads. Topknot is definitely looking like a predator not to be messed with....quite the warrior!

Hey everyone thanks for checkin in on this thread. I got a little time in on it today. I started on these scales around the dread lock
eruptions.

Haven't checked in on this build for a while, the texturing on the nose makes him look really pissed off, accentuates the expression really well and the scales you've started flow into the dreads naturally - great work as always.

I definately like the detail you sculpt into each piece you do.  Any unique ideas for how, or what, you'll use to bind the topknot together?

Still trying to get all of the Topknot stuff here. This is the sculpted dreads build. Some of you have seen these some haven't.

Sculpted on a heavy wire.

I wanted to make them more like some type of gills and less like some type of hair.
Here is the molding process. Brushed on several coats of silicone then plaster mother mold.

With the silicone mold there is only one split and it is on the underside so there are virtually no seams.

I colored the TC265 so if the paint wears a bit it won't be as noticable.

Here they are sprayed with black Plasti-Dip.

So I didn't like something about the cheek area. I spent a couple hours redoing it. It's not quite there but it is getting closer.

Old cheek,

New cheek.

Damn, I could have swore I commented on this once before.  May have been one of your previous topknot threads.  This is one hell of a build man.  I've got to echo others comments on the amount of detail you throw at each piece.  Very cool.  (y)

I managed to sculpt and mold the topknot dread today.

First coat of silicone.

Second and last thick coat of silicone. You can kind of see how it will sit on the head.

I also did some of the final final detailing of the skin of the cheek. This is what I'm going with.

I like the new version of the cheek area. It is only a slight difference but the "bumps" or thorns - whatever you want to call dem - looks alot better now gathered in one area instead of the whole cheek. Very nice detailing also.

SOB i thought you had given up on it ? lol lookin freakin sweet but i have to ask . why are those ******** hands not done yet !!!
and yes i am a loser i cannot figure out how to get the video off my cam corder yet.

literally the most impressive build thread ever created by a long standing member of the lair...

you should make a book based on the construction of this costume

Hey thanks for the comments everyone. Hey Andrew, always glad to hear from ya. I don't think I could sell enough copies of that book to pay for itself.
I had a good day of pouring dreads yesterday. I needed a few more of the biggest ones and all of the medium and small. I had to order new foam. The stuff I had laying around was so old it didn't foam up well. Luckily I didn't have that much left that I had to toss.

I still need several more of the mediums and smalls but here's what I poured yesterday.

Those are totally bad ass truly man !! Are they pretty soft they look lime they will do just fine . I am impressed i am planning on making some of my own soon. Seeing yours makes me want to get on them now . And as for posting the finished feet do you mean posting them on this new thread ?

I also saw when they made a movable jaw on the movie predar 2 they sculpted the mamdables seperate from the whole mouth and and added them later so they have alot of range of movement . I never thought until now about doing that on ma ving mouth. Just thought it was something to think about. Really enjoying watching this coming together keep it up your getting close. And i think you would be amazed on how many people would buy your book. I want a copy !

Thanks everyone for keeping up with this. I decided I needed to get the quill situation figured out to finish the head. I wanted to do something different, go figure. I thought it would look cool do have the quills lead into the topknot.

Here is rough layout
