Hello all,

I am posting some pics here for a friend who is waiting in the wings for rpf membership to open...

This is a commission of a 1/1 scale Spider Head from The Thing.

He said these first shots are of the almost finished sculpt except for some refinement on the eyelids.

The head is now out for molding and he is sculpting the legs and already has the dental supplies to start on the teeth, gums and tongue.

As this progresses I will post more and upon completion we can do a "making of" presentation.

Thanks for looking,
Steven on behalf of Willy

(Doh!...I forgot to point out that Willy sculpted the original for the movie.)

Enjoy...

Agreed!

For some people it is Regan that scares them ****less.

Me? This thing. :confused

This was the only movie that ever really scared me when I was a kid. The spider really freaked me out. Somehow all the other movies were more like "meh.... whatever".

One of my favorite movies and creatures!

So what will the final piece be cast with? Vinyl?

I believe he said it will be finished in fiberglass. I'll confirm that.

Steven

UPDATE:
Nope, not fiberglass. He said it will be a urethane rigid plastic. The dental work will be all actual dental acrylics and the eyes are real glass eyes--the eyes in the stalk custom made for this piece.

I love that line..."you gotta be ****ing kidding"...I think it is one of the very few scenes where the characters act out the same emotions felt by the audience at that exact moment. At least, that is what I thought when I first saw Norris's head pop off and turn into a spider.

The bit where they did the 'test' was scarier for me: being tied up next to a guy who suddenly turns into a giant mouth...brrr!

Do we have an idea on when it may be ready and approx. cost?

I was going to get one of the model kits, but this looks cool!

Yes, in the immortal words of Olivia Newton John and John Travolta.....Tell me more tell me more!;)

I don't have any info on what if anything would be available at this time. As I said it is a commissioned piece that is still in progress. I just thought folks would want to have a look at a cool recreation from the original artist. Also because Willy wanted to share his work with the board. I'm sure we can look forward to a lot more postings/offerings when Willy is able to become a member.
