The Thing - Palmers Blood Test

So I’ve found how to make to regular non infected blood samples in petri dishes, but can anyone give any tips on creating Palmers? I’m stuck on how to make the 2 blood tentacle looking things. Is slow cure resin pliable or is there a way to make a mold? If anyone can help I’d greatly appreciate for my Thing display!

And if anyone could help me isolate their names so I can print them on thin paper and trace them onto the tape? I’d glady pay for the work and palmer blood sample advice!

I made a set of these a couple years ago for the secret santa thing and I ended up 3D printing a Dungeons and Dragons elemental token and dripping the red resin over it. When the resin cured a bit but was still a bit runny I used a skewer to drag it between points to create drips and stringy bits.

Not sure if this helps but here are the screen grabs I had saved of the name tags.

That Palmer sample looks awesome, TSpawn! (y)

I'm planning on a MacReady build myself, and for the sample I'm taking inspiration from 00fil00's build, linked below, using the same Air Elemental miniature (I bagged one cheap on ebay).

Good luck with your build, BRF (y)
Ah that is exactly the post I used as reference when I set about doing this! Great inspiration.

Unfortunately I don’t have a 3D printer, I was basing mine just off ones on etsy and google images but wanted to have it be completely clear, that’s why I wondered about making a mold or if the resin is pliable at while curing as that would be easier since I’ve never made a mold or casting of anything, and really need to get it semi ‘tentacle’ looking for my collection. But the ideas so far have been really good!

Something like this, maybe? It's not clear, but it's certainly 'tentacley'

I think it could easily be modded by removing the legs, and once painted it could look pretty disgusting...i.e. great :)

Just another idea, BRF (one which I might also try myself) ;)

Tentacle Miniature

Well, I tested my idea of using the tentacled miniature (mentioned above) and it turned out quite well...I think

I haven't quite nailed the blood colour though, and so I might repaint it at some point.

I've also been putting together a few other things for my own MacReady costume, including making my own hat, so perhaps I might start a thread of my own one day :)

You could always go with the original. The original popped out as a little creature with arms and a mouth before splashing to the ground as a blood pool again. There is a photo of the real one out there somewhere... but it looked something like this...
