The thing about credit card props...

Hi all,

I just want to point out for anyone (read: not a member of these forums) out there watching that credit card props, namely the ones we make, are just that: Props.

The props we make use design techniques to make them look real and good on film. Up close and personal they are obviously not real.

I am so tired of receiving pm's from people who have just joined these boards (with 0 posts) asking me to make them exact copies of American Express cards.

My company never has, and never will support criminal activity in any way shape or form.

Every message I get says that they heard that I make credit cards from some message board (presumably some criminal underworld forum.) I don't really even know what to do. I don't want to be associated with the likes of these people, and hate the thought that my good name, and company are floating around these circles.

Grr. I'm sorry for ranting and raving, but I really needed to vent!

Thanks for listening.

WOW! People really do that?

They really can't think that the best way to pull off some criminal fraud like that would be to go to a public, online forum, right? The people who pull off real counterfeiting and real fraud like that tend to be a little harder to get in touch with. You usually can't just PM them. :lol

I will say though, it should be a testament to your work that people believe you can make real, functioning cards. Like a magician who convinces everyone he really can read minds, it's a testament to your skill and attention to detail.

...and a testament to the lack of thought on the part of those members. Next time, tell them to call your associate who will help them, and give them the number for the police. That ought to scare them straight. :lol

Thanks Nick! I like the idea of the phone number leading to police.

I still cannot believe the blatant attempts for obtain these things. You're absolutely right in the sense that it seems that someone who actually knows what they're doing in these regards would have better sense than to contact perfect stranger on a public forum.

Perhaps guys who are new to that game... or just plain idiots...

Guess you never heard the story of people getting busted looking for a hitman in the phone book.

I agree completely. Totally stupid. I work in law enforcement. The stories I have to tell on "stupidity". Sorry low life's are trying to take advantage of your talent.

I've heard the stories, I choose not to believe them for my own sanity. :lol

...although a phonebook page with a hitman section would make for a unique "original" prop.

Then again, it could be a sting to see if you would bite at an offer. You can't tell me that certain agencies don't watch forums like this.

Guess it's a good thing we don't partake in that sort of thing...I'd hate to be the guy who's considered a narc, but I'm not about to risk my business and personal life for something stupid like that!

you can send each of them a reply you made beforehand saying you are obligated to report any request of forgery to the authorities and that their messages had been forwarded.

that might help them understand what they are doing is both stupid and illegal. im assuming some of them don't mean any harm, but still that must be annoying.:unsure

I remember an episode of "COPS" when they sent letters to all these criminals who were on the run telling them they had won a competition of some sort and said all they had to do was come pick up their prizes. Worked a treat. It's kinda like the re-casters thread on here. :D

I agree... IMHO more of a 'sting' on you... vs a 'real' request..

(unless complete kids/amature hour)

most real/organized crime groups have much better resources and hi-tech ways of getting this type of info/items..

Sorry, I was kinda getting at the fact that if someone was dumb enough to ask some guy on a prop forum to make fake credit cards then they'd be ripe for the picking if the authorities wanted to try wind em in, not so much that I think they would target PropDoc in the same way.
The criminal mastermind does seem to be a dying breed these days... I liked a good crime non-fiction too.:facepalm

I had made a very high quality Social Security card prop but in the background I put small duplicates watermarks saying "replica". I had a guy email me asking to take out the watermarks and put a real name and number on it for him. I politely refused... At first! Then with each message I started rudly refusing. He just kept getting pushy and upping his offer. He was well over $5,000 in his offer and he just wouldn't take a "no!". He was getting very angry, up until I finally told him I was going to report his name and email address to authorities. He disappeared after that, and I never would have reported him because I wouldn't want attention turned to my completely accurate prop :lol

I think I may just begin threatening. I feel weird about it, because for all I know, some of these guys could be honest people with honest questions.

But it happens on average once a DAY!

so.............can anyone make me some credit cards. i need a new car.
:rolleyes
sure man here you go:
