The Thing 1982 - Custom Flamethrower

Hey Everyone! My wife asked if I would build a flamethrower to go along with her R.J. MacReady Halloween costume and I enthusiastically said yes! I want to first thank @funboy1013xx and @Nostromo2124 for their assistance in helping me with adding a little snow effect to her costume. The flour trick worked like a charm!

I build this pack with a combination of PVC parts from the hardware store, and a good deal of stuff I had lying around the shop. I did model and 3D print 4 caps for the larger canisters. This is by no means screen accurate, but it was fun and I had a chance to play around with a few different techniques. Namely airbrushing which I am sad to say I have not done enough of.

Anyway, happy late Halloween and I hope you get a kick out of it.

Very nice build and paintjob, i like this vintage J&B decal!!!
Always enjoy your videos too...
Maybe some sprayglue+flour will add another snowy/frozen effect ?!

That turned out fantastic! Well done!

Thank you very much!

Thank You! I liked the J&B reference as well, since its not "screen accurate" i figured it worked. I appreciate you checking out the videos, thank you! And thanks for your help with the four trick, it worked out well.

When I re-watched both films last fall, I thought how cool it would be to have a flamethrower.

Really cool build and looks like fun costumes!

I love this thing. A good example of "less is more."

Carpenter's "Thing" is one of my sentimental favorites because I was living in Juneau, AK when they were filming the opening sequence up on the Juneau Icefield and staying at the hotel straight down the street from me. The site was scouted for its common overcast, but it was unusually sunny and warm and the crew played a waiting game for days hoping for worse weather. They settled on a couple slightly hazy days and filtered the rest to make the weather look worse than it was.

That's pretty cool to have been near the location when they were shooting.
