The Studio Scale Tie Fighter Project

Nice one :thumbsup
You going all the way studio scale?

I started roughing out one a while ago but haven't had a chance to finish it yet but do want one. Got my cool shade just gathering dust.
Keep it up.

Thanks guys!

So this is my attempt to build a studio scale TIE Fighter from scratch. The hull, H and T beams will be EMA parts. Rather than try to collect up all the correct nernie kit parts I'm modeling them in the computer, then will print them on a jewelry resolution 3D printer. I've been using the wealth of photo reference available online of the original studio scale models, as well as kit scans and other photos people have posted of kit parts.

I'm not worried about this TIE being 100% accurate, which would basically be impossible without scans and dimensions off the existing model and a collection of all the original nernies. I'm not going to kill myself making sure every scribe line relates exactly to every detail to every structure, etc. Every recreation of the TIE is an impression, this one is mine.

As you've seen from the postings so far, the computer modeling of the hull and pylons are basically complete. Here are some images of the progress to date on the wing hub. Still a few more nernies to model.

LOCKHEED is on the original kit part used. It's a great in-joke.

Does anyone have a source in the U.S. for Koolshade? I realize it'll be the 17 louvers per inch, not the 23 LPS as was used on the originals.
