Well I am hooked. Flat out love the show "Top Gear". I really want to do a Stig costume.

Now, I am sure they are off the shelf parts, but I dont reconize the lid maker... Especially the one with the arrows in the dome.

Has any one done a dead on accurate "Stig Rig"?

Pretty sure its a Simpson Diamondback lid, then full Alpinestars race gear, all top flite CIK rated stuff.

I'd imagine it varies because there are probably various 'Stigs' depending on the availability of an expert driver. Perhaps each have their own preference as to helmet choice.

The most current 'stig' lid is the Simpson Diamondback, but the Speedway RX was used in earlier series.

A fellow UK Garrison member has just put this costume together as a non SW character.... it wasn't a cheap costume, so if you go this route, expect to pay over £1000 (GBP)

According to sources, most, if not all the actual costume was aquired from Grand Prix Racewear near to the Silverstone motor circuit.

Yeah, they look to be variations of the Bandit lid.

That's what Mat Hoffman has been wearing for the last decade.

I always think of Mat when I see The Stig; he's such a legend, after all.

if you are looking for cheaper gear, hit up racing forums, bike forums etc

i have a few white helmets that just sit on a shelf, once you've had an off in them, they are rubbish for using again.
padding also moulds inside to fit only ONE head, so even old helmets get thrown out rather than sold
but if they are for a costume, they'll be fine touched up.
may find yourself scoring a $500 helmet for basicly nothing

This should be a great costume, Nathan.

Just a heads-up, the earlier Stig wore black, but that was quite a few years ago.
