The company that makes them has never made them in brass, or so they told me. The one in the movie is brass colored.

Zlurpo, were can i find these buckles? And what is there name?
:/ I hope it's not too much of a pain in the butt to get the buckle from that bright stainless steel to the brass patina of Quill's bag. I'm looking up methods and tutorials right now to remain hopeful. Seems the only way is to experiment with a mixture of paints and then seal it with lacquer.

They really don't have to be functional after painting them. It's not like you have to open it to take the bag off

What do you guys think about this Distress paint to paint the bag buckle? It says it can be used on metal. Maybe roughen up the surface first and then paint?

Ok, I'd link to it, but that website has some issues with being linked. So it's at makefast.com. If it has a popup window for "makefast marine" or "makefast shop" click "makefast shop." Then in the search box, search "click buckle." They are click lock buckles, but they have a typo on at least one of the products which will make it not appear as a search result. The exact version I got is listed as "45 mm. Click ock Buckle, Stainless."
They have a minimum order of 25GBP, they don't take credit cards, and shipping is expensive to the US.

Yeah, I know that from experience which is why I didn't want to have to paint it. It's not a matter of using the buckle as a functioning piece, as Thundercat said it's easy enough to take off the bag without having to unclasp the buckle. But I know how annoyed I would be if the paint were to rub/chip/scratch or come off in any other fashion from general wear and tear, because I plan on using this bag outside of the costume, maybe not for every day use, but well beyond the couple times a year I would be wearing otherwise.
Would the Rub N Buff alone work well? I have some experience with Rub N Buff for a couple pairs of steampunk goggles I made, but those were plastic and in my infinite paranoia regarding the paint rubbing off I also coated them in a couple layers of sealant to ensure the copper finish would stay. That sealant also gave them quite the shine (which I didn't mind for that particular project) which I would want to avoid with the buckle.

Are you 100% certain it's stainless, or is it just plated? It looks like nickle plating to me.
I am not sure. However, that's what they told me they were. I don't know how to tell. But that is what they said it would be, and what it says on all of the invoices/receipts. If you know a way to test it, I'm happy to try (on my own buckle, not on someone else's!).

Hmm. The website lists them as carbon steel. So they would have to plated with either nickle or zinc(can you plate something in stainless steel?) to keep from rusting.
I'm not super familiar with metal plating, but would it be possible there's a brass layer under there that can be revealed?
