The Star-Lord/Peter Quill Sling Bag thread

Good find! My recommendations is to not bombard the vendor and telling them why we need the buckle! With experience when most vendors that have specialty items like this and someone tells them about the movie prop either they shutdown correspondence or jack prices up! I'm seeking a US vendor as well to see if there is a supplier! Nice find!!!!B-)

I've started communicating with a manager at that company, he said he can help but to call him. I'm at work, and in the USA so he'll be off work by the time I'm free, so I'll call on Monday.

Awesome detective work, Zlurpo. I'd also be in for a buckle if a group buy goes down.

Dang, good work Zlurpo! The more I see this bag, the more I want it, so I may be interested if you can get something going with the buckles.

So since I'm not a patient person, and I had access to a laser cutter last night, I built a working acrylic model of the buckle. It's a bit sloppy, doesn't have the center rectangle, should have been sanded blah blah, 10 other small things, but it's functional! First pictures of it clear (although not very, since super glue clouds acrylic) and then with a 3 minutes paint job.

The buckle: As discussed in this other thread I wrote trying to identify the buckle, I don't know what they used for the buckle. It is similar to buckles make by Cobra, Raptor, and Stubai. Also, if you look at buckles on Tower Harnesses, they are all this "quick connect" style. Additionally, there are a couple cheap knockoff Chinese brands of quick release buckle. So far, all of them are too different to have even been easily modified to be the buckle in the movie.

That little lip under the side release latch is something I have not seen on any other quick release buckle so far. The best guess so far is that is is an old version of a buckle that used to be sold but is no longer available. If anyone can find something that could work, please share :D

Failing that, user Kevin Gossett seems to be considering making non-functional copies of the buckle, since it doesn't need to work for a bag like this. I have been experimenting with designs for a functional buckle which I'll be building this weekend.
I just watched GotG today and just got home and started looking for the buckle. I have used ITW Nexus GT Cobra: http://na.itwnexus.com/products/categories/plastic-buckles/gt-cobra™
You can get them here: http://milspecmonkey.com/store/hardware-diy/372-itw-gt-cobra-buckle.html
the plastic version will be easier to work with.

Zlurpo, when you talk to the guy on Monday, can you ask if he can supply the buckles in brass instead of nickel?

By the time I'm done talking to him, I hope to know everything there is to know about these buckles!!
