Sorry to dig this thread up from the dead, but I've finally been able to register and wanted to share a photo of my finished version of thermal's prop. Painted by hand with stand made from a spare Lucite disk and straightened paper clip.

Thanks for the compliments, folks. I'm glad this display stand turned out well as my first idea proved unworkable.
