The Rise of Skywalker: Episode IX Graflex

These photos of an old stunt (the Christie's Auction saber) were just posted over in the ESB Bladed Stunt thread. I was shocked. I had no idea the Episode 9 design was a throwback. Am I the last one to catch this?

Thanks again to ALLEY and thd9791 for sharing them!

This is a strange saber - the plastic socket and the bunny ear support would not hold up to dueling. (Though there is reflective paint on the blade)

It also has the ANH setup with the ESB grips. I'm guessing this is a saber made for photography, or a moderately successful attempt between the first two films at a blade (remember the Elstree saber fail)

I definitely see inspiration in the Ep 9 sabers rivets, and im not sure if it was on purpose!

There are two types of Rivets used on the different Rise of Skywalker Rey sabers. The first is a small rivet with the traditional hole in the centre and the second is also small but with a shallow depression rather than a hole. They are more or less equally spaced around the pommel and sit either side of the leather strip and 'clamp'.

Regards,
MARK

That's interesting, Mark. Do you think some are functional (with holes) and the others decorative (depression)? Or do you think something else is going on?

Hey Drew.. They seem to vary on different Rey saber hilts. The hero I have seen reference of has shallow rivets all around the pommel. Other hilts - used in promotional material and in some of the trailer clips - have the deep-hole rivets so, for some reason it seems that there doesn't seem to be a standard across all of the Rey hilts.

From what I understand, the graphite marks up the grip and the brass coloured weld marks are all similar as is the leather finish strip that goes around the hilt to the 'clamp'

I actually love that photo with the hand and graflex... wish the stuff in the background wasn’t there

Exactly, this is a promo poster, can’t say anything is accurate. I friend thought me never go by promotional stuff, right Seth !?

Considering Jango is holding a blaster that has no barrel, i wouldnt count on accuracy from that lol.
