The Predator Franchise

AVPR IS too dark, but if you just adjust your TV screen you can see it just fine. Just gotta tweak your picture settings. Then it's just as clear as any other film. Can't do that in the theater, of course, but now on DVD there's no reason to level that criticism.

Why should I have to adjust my TV when my current setting work for 99.99999% of everything else I watch. I actually wrote Fox and told them how horrid the lighting was and how I felt ripped off. Not that it is going to help much but at least I am complaining to someone that can hopefully fix that in the next movie.

Both the Alien and Predator franchises died with AvP- they have gone the way of "Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman" (or Abbott and Costello for that matter).

The biggest problem with these movies is the lack of characters you can identify with and actually care about. I cared about the crew of the Nostromo, the Colonial Marines, and Dutch's rescue team.

But the trend is to steer away from proper character development (which requires a writer that doesn't suck) and just use the humans as cannon fodder to move the picture from one effects/gore shot to the next. I couldn't care less about the team in AvP. And I won't subject myself to AvP:R. I'd rather watch Godzilla vs Mothra.

How entertaining would Jaws vs Orca be without a Quinn or Brody character? :rolleyes

The focus has become "the monster" and not the characters. But the monster is nothing but a one dimensional threat the characters have to deal with- and a good story is about characters that we want to see overcoming the threat.

Came up with this alternate ending for the first AVP movie.

Alexa Woods: Was put in charge of maintaining safety and responsibility for several archeologists, scientists, security personnel and a billionaire who funded the expidition. Comes out the only survivor.

I just find that freaking hilarious because she sucked as a character.
She would have a major ass lawsuit on her hands and no one would EVER hire her for any work in the future regarding safety and she'd be forced to work in McDonalds as a toilet scrubbing lady.

I love the 2 Predator movies. When I was younger, I think I liked P2 better than 1, but as I've gotten older, P1 seems to have held up better over time. P1 and the first 2 Alien movies have something in common; almost the first hour of the show is spent setting up the plot and characters so that when the big bad monster arrives, you give a crap about what happens to them. Even P2 gives you a couple characters to care about. While AVP and AVPR kinda set up situation and character, the writing and direction of said characters falls flat. If AVPR had focused on the woman soldier who had just returned home rather than on a pizza boy and his ex-con big brother, I might have found it more interesting. That, I think, is the key to good Alien and Predator movies-Give us characters that we care about enough, so that when they get killed, we're saddened, or when the "hero" fights the big bad, we root for him or her to win against all odds.

One problem I had with AVP/R is that in the Predator ship we see the skulls of a Tricerotops (sp) and a T-Rex.

So the Predator race has been around that long hunting on our planet?

That just seems a little nuts.

Don't go by any crap you see in the AvP movies. They just found a fossil and brought it home to brag to their friends... and when they got back here themselves they found the rookie was lying and hunted him down, gutted him and ate his entrails and smashes his skull.

The original AvP comic was a work of art and an awesome story!! When i found out that it was not the basis for the film i totally boycotted it.. Paul Anderson is a TOOL!! Not to mention that i really have never liked anything that came out of ADI's shop. They ruined the Predator with its crappy costume and bulky armor.. Pretty much going against everything the Predator is (light,fast).. Again they were to cheap to go to Stan Winston for the effects.. Who in my opinion is the only Shop who should be allowed to produce a Predator costume for any movie!!!! The second avp movie tried to fix the Predator and aliens but still failed totally, using the garbage look of the Resurrection alien. (Another crappy looking costume to come out of ADI)

:sick please tell me that write up was someones idea of a joke and that it should start getting funnier...

Wow....just wow.

I just read that Danny Trejo is in this one too, so with him and Robert Rodriguez being involved, it gave me a really sick, hilarious idea-

Wouldn't it be hysterical if one of the preds was wearing the "crotch cannon" from "Dusk till Dawn" and "Desperado"? :lol:lol:lol

Thanks for the post! Just watched the sneak peek, and I'm gonna give it an A for Awesome. Nice to see real actors. I think Brody might make a better action star than weepy sensitive arthouse type. I totally buy him in the role, based on the little we've seen.

Bring on the bloodbath!

I hope they not will use the line "Get to the chopper!!!" in the movie. It sounded so bad in AVP:R
