I'm new to the RPF, but I just wanted to say, I love your Pokéball designs, & all the great engineering discussions you've been having. I'm making a Great Ball, & I would like some advice. I already have the sphere (a plastic Great Ball I bought at Megacon, that originally screwed/unscrewed), but I want to make a hinge mechanism. I filed down the threading, & dremeled out where the button will go. Now, what I'm thinking of doing is similar to the commercial Pokéballs you can buy, where there's something similar to
this, called a torsion spring, & an exterior hinge. Since I cosplay, I don't mind the hinge, because I'm more concerned about the spring-action opening movement & the interior of the ball. However, I'm not comfortable buying a torsion spring online because I don't know what dimensions or strength it would need to be. I'm thinking maybe something like
this, but I'm not 100% sure. In addition, where might I get a push-button mechanism for the front button? I'd really appreciate your help on this, since you seem to be the local Pokéball hinge expert!
P.S. If I can successfully construct this logistical monstrosity, I'm making a comprehensive tutorial, & you'll definitely get credit as an inspiration.
