The oldest movie correct ANH lifesize Vader replica

Re: The first(?) complete custom made lifesize ANH Vader - new pics added on side 5

This Vader line-up is total coolness!

I assume you make those mannequins yourself.
They seem to be poseable but sturdy enough to carry the weight of a full vader gear, right?!
Could you tell us a bit about their build-up, please. Or yo you have a tutorial they are based on?

Hi Stilgar. Thank you for the compliment!!!

Yes they do. I carved the bodies out of styrofoam attached over a wooden skeleton. The arms, hands and fingers are made from thick wires and aluminium tubes, covered with soft foam. It works totally perfect. It´s very lightweight and totally stabil. Every Vader body is a carved statue, so to speak.
The same with my LF Chewbacca bodies (visible in my thread) and the other Characters I made. It´s the same way the Mme Tussard people do it. I learned it from them.

Really nice work, the best i've seen on here, very well done

Thank you Frosty you make me really happy!!! I´m glad you like it so much!!!

Usually I don´t wanna show a naked Vader, but after all requests I show you how my Vaderbodies look like. Take a look:

On this progresspictures, the bodies haven´t been totally shaped yet, but It´s the only good picture I have. After the shape is correct I cover the styro with cloth or polyester.

Thank you SSkunky. :cheers Well what I have seen of your ROTJ Reveal so far, let me assume that it will become a very good one!!:thumbsup
.

Thanks Trap Joe, that means alot coming from someone as knowledgeable as you are in the world of vaders.
I only hope I make you all proud. :confused
This is my first proper replica other than sabers, blasters and ST lids and I am really enjoying it. Even though it's been 4 years in the research and finding parts stage I'm glad ive taken the plunge and started work on it.
I look forward to you comments, critisism and suggestions.
Not to hijack your thread, keep up the good work. :thumbsup

Thanks for your kind words.
After all I saw of your Vader reveal, it will look very very good without a doubt. You are very well repaired with very good parts.
Are you planning to do a clean version or a correct used looking mask like the original? Have you ever noticed that the original reveal mask looks that someone pulled or brushed coffee all over the face?

Re: The first(?) complete custom made lifesize ANH Vader - Styrobody pics added on si

Your up early on a Sunday morning! Got kids?:wacko
I'm in two minds about the finish? I always liked the screen used look as I think all the scratches and bumps make props a bit more interesting and gives them that authentic look.
I have hundreds of reference pics I grabbed off the net from the Paris exhibition. So I think I might go with used look.
Do you or anyone else here have any other pics from other exhibitions? It would be good to have some earlier shots before it was bashed about in transit. :love
Thanks for your encouragment. :thumbsup

Hi Mark,

:) no kids here. I am awaiting guests from Switzerland for breakfast today. One of my oldest friend and his girl friend is coming to visit me. It´s unusual that I´m up on Sunday morning before 9 o´clock.

I agree with you. The used movie look is more interseting. I always wanted a plop that looks the same like in the movie not better not worse. That´s why I always tried to immitate all the bubbles and scratches on the surface. Since I have been in the Paris Star Wars exibition twice, I have taken over hundreds of photos from the ROTJ reveal. I also have a huge lot of photos of it from other exhibitions and the archives. I will start a tread of my reveal bust pretty soon, so I can put some of them there, if you want. This is here a thread about my ANH Vader. In what details of the reveal are you especially interested in?

I have a daughter , that's my excuse.:rolleyes It's always nice having good friends for breakfast, I hope they taste nice!:lol
I suppose the paint job from all angles would be a good start. And a cup of coffee!:lol
I would also like a shot of the side linkage area before some of the parts fell off. As I have those parts and wanted to put them on as accurate as poss. see pics:
I don't suppose you know where I can get the electrical contacts that run down the forehead/face of the mask?

I've just realized that this is turning into a discussion about my reveal and going off topic about you Vader display! I am sorry and if you want to carry this on in PM I quite understand. I get very excited talking and finding out new stuff to do with the reveal and sometimes forget I'm not on my own thread!:confused

- you should attach almost all parts onto the mask before painting.

- I have some. I´ll post them in my reveal bust thread. soon.

- I´m sorry, I forgot that. Maybe Darkside can help you.

The amount of time and effort you put into you vaders and any other project simply amazes me!
I don't pretend to be any expert on the vader subject but it looks spot on to me.

You must have a big space to be able to display all these lifesize characters!

And no Wife , I'm guessing :lol

Hi sskunky. Thank you for your warm words. I have my office with my showroom where I display my Star wars figures. I think it would be better if I show more of my self sculpted products there. But it´s the way it is, and I like it. You´re right it´s alway to less space. Unfortunately I need to store much in my cellar.

Hm yes. Sometimes I think that I possibly spent too much time into Vader. But I can´t change it. My excuse I give to myself is: I don´t smoke.

I have no wife, but a girlfriend for almost 9 years now.She didn´t know Star Wars before me, but is now into. You can see her working on the hair of my LF Chewie in my Chweie thread.

Re: The first(?) complete custom made lifesize ANH Vader - new pictures

Okay, you know what? I had no desire to do a lifesized Vader...until I saw yours. You've inspired me to get started on one.

Re: The first(?) complete custom made lifesize ANH Vader - new pictures

Joe, bring the belt and codpiece up until the belt almost touches the chestbox, Move both belt boxes about 1/2" towards the buckle and you will have nailed that ANH Vader man!!! Very nice indeed. One of the very best ANH Vader displays on the RPF. :)

Thank you Vaderdarth(y)thumbsup:thumbsup. I will do that. I´m planning to redress my Vader with a new leather dress. I´m also planning to reshape the body to be slightly thinner. I´ll do as you say, then - and shoot some pictures I will post over here.

Re: The first(?) complete custom made lifesize ANH Vader - new pictures

I like to invite you as well to my very first steps into my lifesize Vader obsession:
1887 I tried everything to find the standard Don post Vader mask. Without success. So as a 13 year old boy I had to built my own mask and costume.
That is how my second costume looked. Unfortunately I only have video´s from my very first one.

I built the faceplate up from styrofoam, covered with resin. I installed a breathing sound via walkman and endless cassette. And I made the dome out of a German fire engine helmet.

Later I was very lucky to find a Don Post helmet. So I went through several changes from 1990 to 92 with it.
I made the upper armour out of syrene to have the same optical look like the plastic mask. So I experimented with heat and Styrene sheets. And this were the results back in the days:

The last image shows me when I entered the school disco in 1990. Most important for me was: no one should ever know who this man behind the mask was.
So I never took off the mask. Was a wonderful time.

the rest of my Vader obsession is seen in the beginning of the thread.
And I´m planning new levels of accuracy on my Vaders in between the next months.
Stay tuned.

After I was cleaning my computer I found a photo of my Vader/Stormtrooper from 1997. I like to share with you.

I like them on these shots. When you compare it to the time. What do you think?

Re: The first(?) complete custom made lifesize ANH Vader - new pictures

I love the '97 Stormtrooper.

Very nice!
