The Official Color & Size of YODA Eyes Thread

Hi Guys.

Some exciting news here... I called Cantor + Nissel this morning about the eyes and I got to speak to a Lesley Ripley who actually painted the original Yoda eyes. she said the Yoda eyes did have brown in them but were prodominently leafy and mossy greens.

So i'm going to get her to do me a set of eyes asap. :D

Heres a pic of a dummy eye mounted inside my Yoda head... I think this looks about the correct diameter :)

Now that is excellent news - a Yoda eye from the original company, painted by the same person who painted the originals. Sweet. :D

I agree with the brown around the center, like in example D.
I just don't think the entire iris is dominantly brownish.
[/b]

Agreed, although I think D needs the brown area enlarged just slightly to be 100% there....

I'll be wanting to decide on the colour scheme by the end of this week as I'm intending to order my eyes then. If anyone wants to be put on a list, PM me about the details and I'll get the ball rolling. This discovery about the actual woman who painted the original eyes working on these is quite a major thing to be honest. Her opinions are very valid even though shes relying soley on memories not reference pics or files they might have had.

Cheers

Cyb.

These are my opinions...and not intended to be snobby ;)
[/b]
Cyb, I'd rather hear your opinion in a snobby tone than hear no opinion at all. Thanks for sharing what you know.

Please, what IS the diameter of the iris? Is it still 14mm? 78 posts later, did it change? :rolleyes And yes, it DOES look correct. :thumbsup

Hey man,

The guy sent the photos with a nice letter explaining that he was the photographer and kindly requesting that they not be scanned. I feel the photo I posted is a pretty good start and further I feel it's pretty accurate.

Okay, I'll drop it.

Hi,

The detailing aspect should be handled by C+N, they'll make it look fantastically realistic.

Heres MK2

Hi Phil

After working with C+N a lot over the past 20 years I know one thing for sure..... They will copy your artwork EXACTLY. Don't rely on them to fill in the blanks for you. They do fantastic eyes of any style but their job is to deliver to the customer exactly what you ask for and if you give them that artwork they will return eyes that look like your artwork. They won't make it better.

I'm not being rude about them when I say they are not in the business of being creative. They provide a service and that service is to copy your design right down to evey smudge and wonky line. Make your artwork perfect and you'll get perfect eyes.

Well in that case, maybe we should all fire up Photoshop and have at it.

Although, if Lesley Ripley is going to be personally painting this batch, I'm sure she recalls how the originals looked and will try to make them like that.

Can someone scan a closeup of the eye(s) in this pic? It looks like it might yield some good detail.

That's AWESOME news about Lesley Ripley. What a stroke of luck Phil.
I think the diameter of the dummy eye you've posted looks perfect. Much better than the temporary, stary eyes that you used in the first photos. I can't wait to see how the Cantor + Nissel eyes turn out.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Neill,

Thanks for that great advise...

With this in mind I will do the high res iris artwork to the best possible standard myself and email them this... As you suggested, they and Lesley who did the original eyes, would find it impossible as professionals to remember the exact methods and approaches used with creating them having done thousands of other designs since. All Lesley can offer is hints from memories and the fact that the hands that did the screen eyes will be doing these :eek

Many thanks.

Phil

Phil,
Please make sure that you email her that HD screencap from ESB as well for her reference.
