I just wanted to say I saw the advertisements a few months back for the MIM metal version and the SIDKIT metal version. Just too much history behind these two companies to seriously consider spending the money. Even though, at the time, you were thinking about not doing another run of the metal ones.

They are still offering kits and I'm on the list for the next run of C&S metal replicas. You're reputation preceeds you.

Just curious, did anyone notice that Sids first email was VERY much an olive branch to Rich, or did I just totally misread that? Reads to me like this entire war could have erupted into a partnership (or collaboration) had the guns of Navarone not gone blasting at first sight of the whites of those Italian eyes.

We tend to scoff at politicians who use mud slinging as a sales tacit. We tell them to let their actions and beliefs do the talking, yet it always devolves into mud slinging. Why not just let the facts speak for themselves? Put together a side by side comparison of a sidkit and a coylekit, and paste them with callouts. Let the public decide. No need for the animosity when facts will be much more useful in proving the point.

I don't really see it as taking sides, I see it as viewing things through a different set of lenses. I re-read his post, and I'm just not feelin' the hate. I can see how it could be interpreted that way, though I do not share that view.

Besides, if you REALLY are absolutely committed to playing the "sid shot first" card, I can easily see how the broadcast email that was sent out advertising the new blaster makes a far harsher first shot than what Sid wrote. Could he have not interpreted that email as a slap in the face? I personally was very surprised to recieve it. Perhaps he was just responding to what he considered an insult??

I guess I just figure that since the BR gun is made from almost entirely found parts, it is not outside the realm of possibility that someone could do the same work that was done previously to produce a blaster. Not claiming one way or another what happened (as I haven't seen a side by side comparison myself) but it certainly seems possible. Is Craig Kovaks an enemy for using the published research to produce his blaster?

I'm not convinced that asking questions about something is the wrong way to seek the truth. it worked for Socrates. If my asking questions paints me in a certain light, then i think those doing the painting need to recheck their assumptions. Is this a cult of personality, or a genuine concern for the truth? So far, I've seen no hard evidence presented to conifrm or deny anyones opinion. Is asking for that evidence proof of my motivation? I don't think so. I've seen other members accuse people of recasting, and the accusations are almost always accompanied by a series of photos and callouts. I would love to see this issue settled without doubt, and I'm more than happy to "take the side" of whoever is right.

While I understand the point you're trying to make with this kind of statement, the context in which you're making it is rather unfriendly sounding. Perhaps if Sidkit contacted Rich before creating masters from the CS blaster and then selling a few hundred of them, perhaps if the olive branch was extended prior to that, things would be different now. We can't really say.

Craig is not a very good example, since he's not selling his work, and he's not using Rich's work as his master. I've been in Craig's home, I've seen his masters and I've fired the blaster he built. Not to mention, Craig is a friend of Rich.

Sidkit didn't just use Rich's research, he used his physical WORK to create his product. IMHO there is no question in this, but granted I am only basing this on photos.

Sidkit hasn't only recasted Coyle's work. He's done it with others, specifically MGC's Tanio Koba. But he has also proven that he can create his own masters, so Rich has a very valid point here in saying that the man is plenty talented enough to have tooled his own parts. He is, and he has. However, he didn't seem to with his first two props offered for sale. The VP-70 and the Blade Runner gun.

Hartford for instance used Rich's work as a reference, but they tooled all thier own parts using CAD, and they did not scan his blaster to do that. None of thier parts are remotely close to Rich's.

And while I do not agree with posting private messages and emails on a public board without permission of the person who sent them to you, I understand Rich's indigestion. That first message would have read the same way to me, very pompous and arrogant in tone. Maybe it was not meant that way, there does seem to be a language barrier. BUt there is no question in Rich's tone, and in my opinion there doesn't need to be any first shot. Rich doesn't need to justify his feelings to me or to you. He's just expressing himself.

Excellent point Noeland.

Should have been an obvious choice for sidkit but then a guy who authors a bogus endorsment from Richard isn't about to ask for permission to do a knockoff of Richards work.

I bought a sidkit awhile back and I didn't find it to be accurate even though he claimed it was taken off a real prop. It does make me question things.

The Sidkit VP-70 is cast from the old, out of production (and somewhat rare) MGC VP-70 not the new Tanio Koba VP-70M . How is this different from offering casts of a real VP-70 or, for that matter, Charter Arms bulldogs or Steyr rifles. Let's not cloud the issue. BTW the Tanio Koba isn't the correct model for Aliens enthusiasts.

I would also like to see some smoking gun (pun intended) evidence of wrongdoing.
