I must have messed up and injected this idea in a great but, wrong thread. Came back to it and noticed my comment, (and at least one other) ...had been nuked from orbit. My bad!!! :lol

Just looking to see if anyone else is prototyping the mohawk grenade. This thing is one heck of a conversation piece. Gotta have one. For those that haven't seen it yet, her is a quick screen cap:

To see this monster in motion, check out the ad campaign:

Call me 'nuts'. I don't care. This particular piece would bring a smiley to quite a few people. Is anyone working on it? ...or has it already been done?

Many thanks!!

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

I saw that ad during a football game today and about spit out my drink... hilarious. I love how Mr T can poke some fun at himself... but I'm not a WoW player, so is this thing a real in-game item?

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

Pretty funny. I was thinking about trying this today, after seeing your post last night and could not find it, for reference, today.

I might give it a go tomorrow. Cut down a soda or water bottle for a base, carve up some blue insulation for the body and spoon. Figure out something for the ring and sneak up on a bird for the feathers.

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

Yeah, actually, it is. Anyone caught within the blast radius gets a Mr. T head for an hour, with a note that says "You pity some fools."

I wonder what's next? The Paris Hilton wand - get hit with it and your pet gets turned into a chihuahua?

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

paris hilton IS in the game, or at least "haris pilton" is. she sells fancy jewelery and bags and such. one of them is called a bottomless hole

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

After screwing around a bit I have this:

Looks like it is six sided, and about five fingers high. One of the feathers is peacock and the other is... light blue.

Also, not the most artistic guy here.

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

It's funny to finally see this commercial.
I helped make this prop, I can get some dims. on Monday if that helps.

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

Thanks for your kind attention and feedback with this fellas. I too think this would be a hilarious replica to own but, noticed it's not based on any 'real' world grenade. (At least, that I know of.)

@Jim; agreed. I thought the same thing. Love the first commercial he did for W.o.W. but, this follow up was the icing on the cake. Gotta luv this man!! :)

@fuelish; I'd love to see what you can come up with on this. Your sketches look just fine and I'm with you. This does appear to be a six-sided 'pineapple' type grenade.

@Jedi2016; thanks for the confirmation. :)

@SVS; only you would come up with that!! I love it!! :lol

@berger; you gotta be kiddin' me!! ...oh dear. ...what can of worms have I opened this time? HA!!

@swgeek; what awesome news!! I'm glad I posted this over here. Please feel free to give us some info on it when you have time.

@tubachris85x; agreed. It's brilliant AND funny as all he77.

Thanks again, fellas!!

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

I messed around with some foam sheet. They shape up real nice but a test spray really shows the foam texture. So I sealed it up with a smear of wood glue. That looked better after spraying. I thought the quick way would be to do it using the foam but getting a solid join between the pieces is not to smooth. I am going to keep tinkering with it, but I may change to clay(I suck with clay) or maybe a big blob of Great Stuff.

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

@fuelish; I'm sure whatever you come up with will look great. Not sure if this would help but, I've found that the bondo body filler, in a rattle can, works like magic on some materials. May take a stab at this myself if I can get caught up before the weekend.

BTW, there has been quite a few (non-prop enthusiest) people talking about this commercial, where I work. I've not even mentioned the idea of making this thing, yet. HA!!

Here's some more reference images that I put together last night. Didn't have a chance to post them until now. Hope this helps:

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

Dosn't look too hard to make to be honest, the main body can be made pretty simple, assuming you get the dimensions right or how you want them. I guess my idea for making the pineapple body would to make squares (there are three different shaped ones "squares" from top to bottom) I'd say make one of each of these squares, mold each one, and cast 6 of each, and place them onto the main body as it should (all 6 vertical rows) and mold the body entirely after filling and what not is done and cast it as one piece

Hahahaha! This thing is soooo awesome! Me and all my Night Elf Mohawks would love to get one of these! :lol:thumbsup

Not sure what you are getting at here. Heating up some rockin' chili right now. It's awesome too. You should come over. Have a bite. :D

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

OK, so as promised here are some dims. I'll try and get pictures tomorrow.
The pineapple is 3 3/8" tall
The widest part is 2 7/8"
The narrowest part at the bottom from the outside of the blocks is 1 13/16"
The top two rows of the pineapple are 3/4" tall and the bottom row is 5/8" with a 1/4" between the top two rows.
( forgot to measure widths today).
The "crown" part at the top is 2" in Dia. and 5/8" tall
The spoon is 1 1/16" at its widest and 1/2" at its narrowest.
The big octagonal ring is 1 7/8" O.D. and 1 1/2" I.D. by 1/4" thick
The small rings(3) are 5/8" O.D. w/ a 1/16" wall thickness by 1/8"

Re: Awesomeness in motion: The Mohawk Grenade...

Very cool, thanks.
After messing with making the individual sections, which look great by themselves, but not so much when glued together, I decided to try glueing sheets up to make a cube and cutting that down to shape. Still waiting for the couple of different glues testers to dry.

tubachris, I have never tried anything like this and never done any resin casting. So this is a newb attempt. It does look simple, compared to a bunch of stuff on this site, and looked like a good thing to take a shot at. I would probably have an easier time making it from wood or steel, but that would also cost more.

swgeek, did you make this based on what the game team designed? Or did they base the in game item on your design? I was wondering because I thought it would be easier to use an existing grenade that could have a repaint and detail. But I found nothing like the mohawk grenade, a few were close but the big difference is that, in the mohawk grenade, each frag has a flat face, all the photos I found were curved frags with the failure lines cast or cut in.
