The Lost Room

Hey gang,

Just wondering if anyone has any screen caps of the clock. It's obviously just an old vintage travel clock, red or brown leather, square face, gold bezel and says ALARM on the bottom. I don't have TiVo or anything like that, so I never get to see if there is a manufacturer's mark on it.

If it's a found object like I suspect, it should be a fairly cheap prop to pick up off of ebay (unless someone feels bad for the seller and tells them what it's worth to certain group of prop collectors ;) :lol )

Much appreciated, SG :thumbsup

Still can't make out the manufacturer, but at least now I have a pic to compare it to when I'm searching instead of going off of my fuzzy memory.

You can buy clocks like that, or similar to that in truck stops. Well, thats the last time I've seen one anyway. I don't know if it was that EXACT one though. Usually they are black.

What is the size reference for that clock? I haven't seen the show, but I'm guessing it's palm-size or pocket-size?

I think my dad had one just like it, I'm going to be seeing him Friday night, so if someone can give me more info, I can check to see if it's what he might still have.

Well, they're generally palm sized and anywhere between 2 and 3 inches thick (in the closed position.

In the show, the "event" when all these objects appeared, occured in '61. So based on that, the clock should probably be vintage to that time period. I'm almost certain the prop-master wasn't concerned with getting one that was positively built prior to '61 as long as it fit the time period.

I did some quick online research and found out that it is a travel alarm clock made by "PHINNEY-WALKER" or "Phinney Walker". I've seen similar ones on eBay but not the correct model or face - listed as being from the 1960s.

There are some that I've seen with the correct hands (which are partially glow-in-the-dark) and face, but it didn't have "Alarm" on the bottom half. The numbers are also glow-in-the-dark with an outline, probably in a gold-tone.

Here's an example of a blue one I found...

Actually 'dox, you may have found the correct manufacturer. In your pic, if you look under the minute hand, you can see a faint marking - that's where they say ALARM. If we could find that clock in the red or brown leather, I think we'd be set.

My wife is more into the show than I but watching the scene with the clock it seems it's approximately 3 x 3 inches. Thanks for the info Paradox.

Early on it appeared that the clock might be pivitol but now it's looking less so.

My wife is bugging me to look for a replica of the hotel room key.

It's a common hotel key fob but the design is normal heat set into the plastic. A replica could be made with vinyl or silk screening or even decals.

Yep, I'm 100% sure it's a Phinney-Walker... and a brown version of the blue one I posted a pic of... I haven't found a model number or model name yet. When I commented about finding the incorrect ones, I was referring to what was on ebay.

Bingo...

Inquiry has been made to see if it's for sale still. :D

Looks like you got the right model, 'dox; only thing that might concern me is the color. From the show, it looks like the color goes from anything from dark brown to pumpkin orange, depending on the lighting.[/b]
From the amount of time I spent doing stage work and independant films, I'm confident on the color being the brown shown in my last post and the link in your last post.

If we could find a dealer of blank key fobs, maybe we could talk ssdesigner into making the decals. Scott does incredible custom decals.

-Fred

I found about 5-6 sites last night and sent out emails to them asking about custom work. Most of the ones that I found only showed text as an option, one said to email for custom logos. The other problem I saw was that ALL of them had the circular emblem/text about dropping them in the mail. :confused

Think this will do it for a blank one (no mail emblem...) and $0.19 each, doesn't look like they do custom logos.

The NHS fob looks to be the best bet. Now, is it the 3.5" or 5" fob? My feelings lean towards the 3.5". And is the color red or dark red, I can't tell.

As for graphics, I'll PM Scott and point him towards this thread to see what he says.

-Fred

I could do up the graphics on them if someone could send me one of the key fabs we'd be going with. At this point for durability I'd like to suggest that I do them with silkscreen inks rather than vinyl decals.

What do you guys think?

Let me know.

I am in a hotel right now, and the key fob is similar, the rectangle kind. The color is a dark red. (looks almost a funny purple) Dark red matches the show
