The Last Jedi First Order Stormtroopers

I see the difference too. Bearing in mind that cameras can add all sorts of distortion, the fact that they all look similarly "different" makes me think there have been changes made.

I'm no expert by any means but to me at least, the change looks to be as simple as a shift in the placement of the white armor piece that forms the "nose" and "cheeks", as it were. It appears to me that they just moved that white piece down somewhat (which creates the thinner and narrowing black "frown" look. In addition, it looks like the top part of that same white piece has been tilted out, essentially creating a steeper bridge of the nose with a sharper angle. This makes the left-most helmet look particularly odd from the somewhat side view we see. The rest of the helmet looks pretty similar to me. I may try messing around with this in Photoshop to show what I'm talking about.

Am I imagining things? As I said I'm no expert. Not even sure whether that white "piece" I'm talking about is separate or part of the whole helmet mold.

edit: I'll also say that regardless of everything else I mentioned (which may not be accurate at all :lol ) the more frontal views we see of the troopers in the back of the pic have frowns very reminiscent of the old Hero TK frown (as far as size relative to face). Interesting stuff.

It doesn't get anymore definitive than that... they have changed.

How people can't see it is mind blowing to me.. clear as day.

I'm surprised some aren't noticing the difference.

I saw the picture before reading the article and the helmet was registered instantly as different.

The mouth area being what stuck out. Or in this case, didn't stick out.

The mouth is thinner. Steeper. Sharper without the slight curve. Less mocking looking, and more menacing alien looking- like the original STs. And the angle is hard to tell, but the chin seems less pronounced. Like the nose is pinched pulled out further from the brow, dropping steeply down to the chin.

But I could be imagining all that and the article just validated what I'm seeing doesn't mean it's real. :wacko

I agree about the chin area. It looks smaller to me.

I'm not surprised that they tweaked it a bit. It seems about right for the production of a whole new movie. Just as the troopers in the OT were tweaked for each new installment.
I wouldn't be surprised if they evolve other smaller changes for the film after TLJ.

I just can't believe they didn't hear anyone complaining about the lack of "mouth" detail. If it had even minor detail to the mouth it would look so much better IMO.

Definitely like the new helmet design. I agree it looks much meaner, but it also looks sleeker and more Star Wars.

I may be wrong but the forearms, belt and back plate are also modified. New boots as well but I may be wrong.

I feel like the people who don't notice the difference are the same people who can't tell the difference between 24fps to 48fps and 60fps.

The difference is in the lower helmet area. TFA helmets have a much wider black mouth gap than the newer TLJ helmets, which appear sharper and thinner. Newer helmets also have a much more tapered appearance around the jawline compared to its predecessor.

^^
Pretty good assessment. I'll have to see a set side by side to see how much I care, though. I see the differences on the helmet, doesn't make a huge difference to me at this point. I'll need a good comparison photo and screen action (i.e. trailer) to be sure :)

Varz, that's a ridiculous assessment to make.
I can tell the difference between various frame rates, but that's a very different thing than taking one (bad) still of the new helmet at a specific angle, and comparing it to photos from TFA at different angles.
Lots of people here have been shouting about how obvious the differences are, but yet not one person has posted a side by side or overlay comparison of a similar angle to make clear the differences.
I'm not disputing that there are differences, I'm simply saying that any difference I notice I believe is simply down to different angles , and that TFA helmet stills at different angles to each other can also look quite different.
I don't think it's in unreasonable request to ask others to be more specific in what is , let's face it, obviously very subtle differences. It's not like it's a completely different shape or colour.
To insinuate and generalise that anyone who doesn't agree the differences are obvious is inferior and can't tell the difference between frame rates is insulting, illogical, and childish.
You may as well say that anyone who likes pink Tee Shirts must be colour blind!

Anovos standard line used for comparison. New helmet looks good, I can see more of the OT TKs design in this even though it has subtle changes. Now do I keep my order on the premium line or wait for the new one...?

Looking at it a bit more, it's a bit more like a pursed, kissy lip Donald Duck as opposed to a slightly more open mouthed one haha! Pretty cool.

I like the little tweak in the frown. Makes it look slightly closer to the OT design.

I definitely prefer this new look to the Force Awakens look. Not a big fan of the TFA designs.
