The Joker's Fedora Hat - Help!

Okay, I'll cut to the chase. I have been searching for a fedora hat for a long time.

The kind of hat I'm searching for is a purple fedora hat with a black ribbon band and a wide brim, just like the Joker's very own hat he wears most of his apprearences in the comics (not the hat Jack Nicholson wears as the Joker in the 1989 Batman movie, since that is a 'pork pie' hat).

The trouble is, nothing like that exists! I've looked over Google, eBay, etsy, and anything else you can name - nothing!

Now, I'm in a bit of confusion here - there are three routes I can go with...

1) Continue wearing my old black fedora hat?
2) Get a white fedora hat, and dye it purple?
or the option my wallet is dreading...
3) Get one custom-made in the US, and get it shipped expensively to the UK?

What do you guys think?

Help!

I would go white and dye it...

most dollar stores carry cheap fabric dyes in bright colors like green blue and purple... might be fairly simple to do it that way...

The ones you order online will probably be just white ones that were dyed and then add a ribbon or belt to it... depends how crafty you are lol

Do you have a picture?

Yeah, I have a picture...

And a couple of screenshots of him wearing it in this link...

I'll try and find more - I know he definately wears one most of the time.

It's a very wide brimmed fedora. One option I can think of is a zoot hat, with the feather removed.

This one comes in purple:

You might be able to find something more local. $80 usd isn't bad... My black fedora was considerably more.

Or you could go really cheap and get one of those Halloween pimp hats... But they just look cheap...

Dying a hat... Well, wool does take dye pretty well, but when you use hot water on it, it shrinks and its shape could get really messed up without a hat block. And without a hat stiffener, it'll probably get floppy...

Yeah, if you dye it, you're going to have to spend some time re-shaping it. I wore my Akubra Indy Fedora in a New York rainstorm and had to spend some time making it look like a hat again afterwards. The fibre-reactive dye recommends using a hot dye, but in the past I've used hot water from the tap and not the kettle and it worked out fine. There are a decent amount of purples here.

I went the zoot suit route a few years ago. I bought a cheap, white one and sprayed liquid Rit on it using a misting water bottle. I then used a make-up sponge to get it to soak into the felt. I believe I did at least 3 coats this way, allowing it to dry fully each time.

The ribbon got dyed purple as well so I used a black magic marker to finish the job.

It's pretty stiff but did the job.
