The Iron Patriot Costume - build progress

* UPDATE *

Well, I had to recycle some of the metal from the Mark 1 shin, so I can do some work on Mark 2's,
since I used all my metal on Mark 1.

I started work on it, screwed it up, (so I wasted about 12" of flat bar), and had to start again.

Like I said, this month's going to be slow, with Christmas and all, but I'm gonna try to atleast get
the SHIN section done this month, and hopefully the CALF section, mabey Boot too for January.

Are you worrying about where where the actuators and power/control cabling/motion sensors etc will fit for the power assist at this point, as well as the fuel lines and combustion chambers that you mentioned?.

@IronPatriot I'm still kinda curious about how you're going to do your control system. It's quite an engineering problem and I want to know how you conquered it :) I'm working on my electrical engineering degree and I like to see how other people solve engineering problems.

Just be careful guys. My last posts have been deleted and they called me a troll and disrespectful for saying stuff like that. Just saying that people like him can cause a lot of members to disappear here. So please stop wasting time on this and let the kid play with his meccano box. I mean no disrespect. I am just trying to help you all not getting kicked of this awesome forum.

Except for the "people like him"-remark, leaving out that actions were taken because people were ignoring a previous moderation request and that members don´t "disappear" (I guess you mean being banned) from the RPF without serious reasons, sjorsjo is right in general. About the awesomeness of this forum, mainly. But also about what makes sense to do and what not.

Since a lot of participating members are quite new to the board, I have to point out that we do not openly discuss moderation decisions, and that ignoring moderation requests such as made in this thread leads to a reprimand.

The "thread at hand" will be closed if it´s not possible to keep it free of a discussion about the possibility of pulling this project off for a certain amount of money, which, as has multiple times happened, will only lead to flaming and fighting. This goes for those who start deviating from the build part of this thread by injecting "reality" into this thread, as well as for the parties either joining in or answering to it.

Thanks,
Michael

Here we go! I had forgotten that I had this link and I think mainly everyone here would be interested in this esp IronPatriot

How Much Would It Cost To Build A Real Iron Man Suit?

The article mentions the miniature Turbines, and lists them at $400 a piece.
The engines used on Yves Rossy's wing how-ever cost close to € 6000,- a piece, and he used 4 of them. Not two.
Without the engines the wing he uses already has a sustained glide of 7:1.
The human body in freefall can get close to 1:1.

Not ment to derail the flight capabilities. But going for a functional metal suit would be awesome in its own right already.

*edit* didnt see the moderators request untill after posting. Wont mention reality anymore and just enjoy the build progres. *edit*

I think this design I just made, might work:

One thing to keep in mind - those four ankle hinges (two for each leg) are going to end up supporting the entire weight of the suit. Make them as sturdy as possible. (I'd also plan on being able to replace them as needed.)

I'm still confused as to what all the hostility is about. Guy comes on the RPF with an aggressive build, and he gets pounced on. Way to welcome a new member.

I say again, just let the guy do his build. Provide RELEVANT feedback where necessary and asked for, and lets see where the thing goes. The OP has demonstrated a diverse skill set so far in this thread. I think there's an excellent chance he will produce something really cool.

It's sad to see this turn from supportive to hostile and condemning. Just let it play out.

he just messaged me saying the rpf mods are being unkind so he's transferring to myspace :(

Me to..

Btw Matt, I think this thread HAS improved a lot. The OP did stop talking about making it a fully functioning flying machine and is now only talking about making it into a metal "replica" of the stark suit. When he stopped talking about rocket power mostly all people stopped flooding the thread with "this is stupid" and "you are going to blow up " kind of post
I was looking forward to see the metal suit finished.

How or why the OP thinks the Mods are Unkind for cleaning up his thread, I have no idea? :confused.

He should check out Raytheon and their XOS or XSO(Whichever) exoskeleton suit. That shows where the best and brightest minds are right now with exoskeletal design and powering of said suits.

You never know, this kid could help Raytheon out with their suits, or not. Shame he is taking his discussion to MySpace. Does anyone even go to MySpace anymore?

And I was holding on to a funny (to me) motivational poster when the "suit" build was complete and we could go back to discussing the "reality" aspect of the project. Oh well.

I dunno man, I hope he comes back. He obviously has some serious skills with metal working, and was coming up with some really cool patterns for the pieces he shared.

Shame to see him run out of town because folks on the board found his project too ambitious.

and was coming up with some really cool patterns for the pieces he shared.

he made a boot.....
the rest of what he showed seemed to be pepakura....which he probably took from someone else....

i dont really think he came up with anything.

his "blueprints" were from the movies promos... :lol

good luck on myspace....i hear kickass is on there as well...

Yeah, I wasn't impressed with anything he did either. I would have been more confident in his skills if he actually answered peoples technical questions about how he planned to pull a lot of his plans off rather than saying he was just going to "wing it."
