The Holophoner (Futurama) build thread [Finished p.4]

Re: The Holophoner (Futurama) build thread

Is "Vito" a sort of throw away brand? I'm curious, but I have that feeling since it's mostly just ABS plastic and it doesn't seem to be built with dis assembly or repair in mind.

This one is an entry level student model. I think they make some that are a bit better but I don't think Vito has any high end or professional models. I could be wrong though. I used to work at a music store where we rented probably close to 1000 instruments every year to elementary school students and this was one of the main clarinets we used. We never really had many people come in for higher end ones.

Been meaning to update this but kept forgetting. Here's the video with all the blinking lights!

Looking great, I especially like the 'glow' the spiraled light gives off, it's nice and alien-y.

With the coloured lighting and beautiful paint job, it's looking mesmerizingly cartoon like. Looking great. And I love all of those purdy colours. :love

I'm bad at updating threads, but I got on a marathon build session the past few days and knocked this project out! Not much detail to add about the process, just a lot of time spent with 5 minute epoxy gluing things into place and finding something else to do so I didn't mess it up while it cured. t I did make a set of robot devil hands to work as the display base:

There's a wire that leads up through the left hand which supplies the holophoner with wall power through a 4.5V AC adapter. That way you can leave it turned on forever... well, for a long time at least. It's a pretty fancy desk lamp.

Here's the finished result:

As always, that's some mighty fine work; nice call with running the wire through the hands.
Seamless is always sexy, and this is damn sexy.

Unfortunately, no - I didn't make any part of this with the intent to be molded. Was kind of nice to just do a one-off without all the silicone goop.

Can it use battery power when unplugged?

Yep! The three position switch in the bell selects either battery or wall power depending on which direction its toggled. You don't need to unplug anything or remove batteries; just flip the switch one way or the other.

Because of your build, Harrison, a close friend of mine is now pressuring me to build a holophoner. Thanks.

But seriously, fantastic work as always.
