THE HOBBIT swords

Now that you mention it I believe you are right. It just seems a bit amazing that BudK can list it at nearly half the MSRP that is even listed on the main UC site.

I never understood that, but hey, that's what they do. Maybe they price it up that high so you think you're getting a deal when they're just giving you the real price, lol.

Oh, how I would love to own a Sting with inscription, I think it's my dream-prop. The one with the silver inlay in the wooden handle that is. Hope this will turn up over a decade somewhere by someone who doesn't know what it is. In a troll-cave perhaps? :)

Finally saw the movie, and everything I have to say has been said - sting, glamdring, and orcrist got some great scenes, made me want sting even more! Is the UC version a decent replica? compared to the prop itself, not an idealized thingy

The Chronicles Art and Design for The Hobbit: AUJ has a rendition of Orcrist as having Glamdrings hilt. Although I do love the design for it in the film!

It's the closest replica out there, besides the Weta Master Swordsmith version. The blade on the TH1 replica has a slightly different curvature than the primary TH1 sword prop, as it uses the same blade tool as UC's LOTR version, but there were slightly different blade shapes on the LOTR props too. The hilt is very accurate in shape, like the UC MC version hilt. Obviously no engraving on the TH1 version.

wow! Kit, that was exactly what I was asking about, thank you! :lol the UC version is now on my wishlist when I come into some money. My first look at prop replicas came from Noble Collection - and I am far more impressed with UC's products and idea of "replica".

Thanks again!

*edit - did not mean to bash another company, what I really meant was - Noble Collection's idea is more of an idealized artistic interpretation. What you see isn't always what you get, because they are producing a representation of the prop, not the prop itself - as a certain kind of collectible. I think my interests are more practical.

I noticed NC changed from the large actor scale of their LOTR Sting to more of the film scale like UC's replica, but it's odd that they stuck with that cast metal handle with the raised vine. Looks like the same grip from their LOTR replica.

On a side note, saw the film again Sunday. As someone pointed out, when Frodo is rummaging through the chest in Bag End, you can see Sting. It does not have the engraving, so that must have been added when Bilbo was in Rivendell.

its an interesting change, but the only part of it that bugs me is the dragon tooth handle

seems a little more hoaky than the LOTR swords

I, too, was irked by the toothy grip, especially since it seems to curve in the wrong direction to comfortably wield the sword. (Though I did love the single-edged half-falchion, half-falcata type blade)
That's why I spent some time and sketched up a version that has a more appropriate grip and pommel, so I can selfishly pretend that it's what Thorin's really holding on to the next time I watch it. :lol My dream version has more nods to Glamdring and Narsil than it does to Sting.

See, was that so hard?

:lol

Much better. Bit too much Narsil in the pommel for me, but much better nonetheless.

Hahaha, thanks! Can't please everybody, so I try to please me. ;) I tried some more glamdring-esque pommel forms but It looked too much like I just split the Grey Wizard's sword in half, so I went with the other one. I like it oodles.

Very nice!

I rec'd the Gandalf staff shortly before Christmas.

Unlike the LOTR Gandalf the White and Saruman staffs, (that came in two pieces) this one comes in one piece in one L-O-N-G box. It's very solid and heavy, a really cool prop.

I'll post some pics when I get a chance

<- New guy what up?! I hoping that UC pulls through with Thorin's Dwarven Sword ... the NC version will only be 28 inches. To quote Balin,"I'm not actually sure it is a sword, its more a letter opener really." I snagged WETA's Fleshing Knives of Nori and have Balin's Mace on the way. But I'm holding out for UC to throw some steel replicas out there. If interested though: youtube.com/CyborgNinja8692 - I keep videos of my stuff on there, which, you'll see some of the cons of painted urethane props ... :facepalm
