The Guyver *Completed*

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Wow! this is looking amazing!
I don't get it though... I think I missed a step somewhere in this thread and I've been looking for it... how did you go from basketball mat "honda bumper" to organic sculpt? Is this carving directly on the foam or am I missing something else?
Either way - subbed! It looks really really good already

lol... Yeah. It's all the basketball court. I hope it looks organic when I get it all together. But if it doesn't - I'll just stick a Honda badge on my chest.

Thanks!

Just incredible. I still can't get over how well that texture is looking.:eek

Me either! It takes forever to do though.... I think that thigh took 3 hours to make. I started going crazy after we watched a movie and I was only 3/4th's done with it... And I have a whole suit to do....

that helmet is cool:D

I love the Lambo! I hope it looks good painted. I suck at painting. The fin goes to the right too...I tried to heat it up to bend it but couldn't get it to budge.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

No, but really... are you just straight up carving the foam into those details? It seems like there's a layer of something extra somewhere in there, and you're just not telling.

Noper.... just the mat... it was already treated for paint since it has the court printed on it. That's why you can see the black sharpie lines under the dots before I primered. If you think there's another layer, I did primer it before detailing. I did detail the other thigh tonight... I'll take a pic of it after I get back home.

I just need the vein details on this one.... Sorry if you don't believe it but that's it. Heat knife, primer, paint...

Let me know what you want to see and I'll do my best to capture it all. I have a ton of pieces left to do so just ask.

No, I totally believe you... it's just... you did an awesome job.

Got the shoulders detailed... decided it was time to try on some of it to check the scale. Nothings strapped or fixed for final assembly.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

The upper arms are okay...If I trim the armpit and attach it to the top to keep them straight, they'll be fine. I got the helmet on with no problem. They spin around the arms right now since I don't have any foam inside them or attached to anything to keep them stable. But with the size of the shoulder bells they fit right up in there and never came out from underneath. I had more problems trying to keep them up and straight versus the mobility.

The lower Popeye arms are some trouble...because of the size of them it hits the upper arms when you move. Good thing it's foam so it will flex.

The shoulders I'm going to attach to the back and have an elastic strip attaching to the middle shoulder. With it attached to the chest, it was popping the pecs from the magnets when I put my arms forward.

And it was a pain right now since I was trying to keep the pieces forward, the thighs up, the pecs from popping off because of the shoulders, and a helmet that hasn't been fitted for my head...lol.

What do you think of it overall though? Scale okay? I know it's a mess right now...

Re: Guyver *WIP*

I like it a lot it looks like it's turning out good, you can use upholstery foam to fill in the gaps and make a snugger fit. I have the same problem with my popeye foearms lol. what I did for my magnets on the Mega Smasher was go to Home Depot and bought some industrial strength magnets, cut out a notch in the middle of the chest and glued them in so they laid flat.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

I'll probably wait to post when I start painting.....all looks the same. Very boring and I'm losing my mentality with dots....

So here's some more!

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Still looks awesome. Before you're done with this, you have to make a write-up on your carving technique. I'm still blown away by it all.

Re: Guyver *WIP*

I see what you are doing. You are pressing all of those dots into the foam!:facepalm
I thought the hammered metal was doing that!:lol
What are you using to press in all those dots?

Re: Guyver *WIP*

I'm using a hot knife and 3 of the heads that came with it. $8.99 at Harbor Freight. Gives the foam a little bit of character. :)

Re: Guyver *WIP*

Aight.... worked on my pecks. Getting buff quick.

The pictures are in order in how I have been carving into the foam. I do throw one coat of primer on it before I start.

First tip is to outline an make the initial indention. On the second tip, I actually angled it more so I can smooth down the edges that is made. Depending on how I want the part to look, I usually only do one of the sides for how the light plays with it. The third tip is the one that gives the hammered effect. Tried the hammered paint and it wasn't doing it for me so I just dot it enough to give it an indention and do it on the areas that are needed. Then I go back to the second tip to do the cracking/vein effects.

Then I just paint... easy stuff and looks cool. I want to try it on some 1/2" foam to see what kind of effects can be done with it because of the depth.
