well now that I think of it, if you make that piece and the shoulder 1 piece. moving your arm forward and up shouldn't be a problem, but sideways and up might be a problem depending on how you do it. and depending on the fit some type of strep to hold it up.
Do you think that if you used a hammer finish spray paint on the foam it would make a organic looking texture like your helmet?
Then you could go over it again with the same colors as the helmet?
There is a chance it could work?

I tried the hammered by itself and it didn't have the roundness that the helmet does on the details. The helmet looks like it was a clay sculpt originally by the round dots in the skin and the marks and details around the edges. I should be able to match it pretty good since I've already done a couple test pieces and they look great.... if you look in a earlier post it doesn't look like foam at all with the gloss. But I did use hammer as a base coat, then hot knifed the details. I'm really excited to see how the paint turns out. I'm just worried about the cracking since there will be 4 layers on it and the foam is orange.
After your done painting, seal it with something, I like using modge .podge. It's a type of glue you can get it at walmart or any craft store. I like to put it on before I paint in after. it helps hide the seems and is sandable. if you don't want to use the pogde I recommend sealing it was something after you're done painting to prevent cracking and scratches
Decided to try some paint tonight to see how it would turn out. Got too cold and dark so I had to stop.... but here's the color that I'm wanting to do for it. I am trying to save up for an airbrush so I can go over the details with a darker color to bring them out.
daninboo - Bought some mod podge to try it out. Only did a couple layers on the seems and it helped a lot with the large gaps. Thank you sir.
once you wipe it down with that black it's going to look amazing! I'm loving what you got going on! Bravo sir! also if you apply the Mod Podge too thick it will dry white so be careful and do thin coats
:eek
In one word, I can't believe you did it with your own hands, without even knowing how it will turn. Damn you're skilled it's just astounding. Unfair. Now I think about finding myself another hobbie...:cry
Yes I know it's far more than one word.
JF - right.....master of foam himself....lol. I don't even know how the rest of the suit will look yet since I haven't assemble the torso. Then I can see where it stands...
I feel like I slowed the whole speed building process to a crawl by doing this though...
Cut out the neck piece which connects the back to the front. Decided to go with Grave's zipper style instead of the pull over.
The chest (my wife called them boobs) are attached with a couple earth magnets. From the looks of the model the shoulder bells form to the back and the top corner of the boobs. So the chest will stay by the magnets and be connected at the shoulder.
Knocked out a thigh with detail tonight while we watched a movie. Can't wait to get the black on this stuff. I just have to stop spraying them in the middle of the night.
