The Grand Budapest Hotel Props

. I will get images of the sprayers i found.

Pls do. Thanks

I have also made the CONFIDENTIAL letter, used real wax for the seal.

Really cool, I am also about to make the Lobby boy hat, but I am not sure to know how to make the lettering ^^

The confidential letter looks really nice. Any template you'd care to share? Thanks
I'm having my embroidered lettering made for the hat; l hope it turns out good....

Yup, I just posted it in the paper prop section > http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=213697&page=4&p=3587647&viewfull=1#post3587647

That's so cool! I don't really know who to ask to have it embroidered... x)

Yeap! Thanks I've seen it
As to the embroided it really is not easy. I found someone that does it on a machine but could not do it in the type of fabric I got (some sort of felt). Then I discovered an old lady that does it in the traditional way so it would be ok. Let's see how it turns out. Tomorrow I'll work on M Gustave key :)

For the hat it took me a couple tries, the top is basically an oval shape, the rim is is a flat pieces with a bunch of serrated tongues that get glued onto the top. I used real wool, but should have found a lighter weight, like a wool mens suit, I got some stuff that was about double thick. but the color seems right.

As far as the letters, I carefully cut out each letter by had on thing styrene plastic, then wrapped each letter with yellow gold embroidery floss, then I glued it down to the hat.

I believe there is a really good close up shot of the gustave key. it should be that cheaper hotel key plastic of the 70's that has a white edge when you cut it. I also found in the shots you can see that it has the center dip in the key top, kind of like a heart. which would make it a corbin key.

I am also wanting to paint a real copy of the Boy with apple, I collected as much as I could but cannot confirm the actual size or the out edge of the frame size. I have rough blueline sketch I did.

I may buy a key lot on ebay if your interested and want one cheap??

Thanks for the pictures! Was that really for Halloween though? haha :)

However, I'll be honest, the perfume caps are pretty inaccurate. Also, the Lobby boy lettering is a bit too chunky for me :p.

I would also make the painting on real canvas =).

The sketch was just a study of the shapes, I haven't painted in a long time. I really just wanted to set a wall of my office to look like the 70's wall with the keys on it. It make sense to have the painting there. And its the main part of the story.

That was Tour De Fat bicycle ride in San Diego,Ca it was a month before Halloween, so we had to get ur costumes ready before then, it gives you a kick in the pants to finish a costume sooner. Since Agatha riders the bike with the pastries, my wife wanted to have to boxes on a stick just like the movie.

These are the keys I will have, just PM if you want one, I will have too many.
The reason I did the lettering on the hat like that is that I needed it done in a day. I really dont like the machine embroidery look, if you have someone do it by hand it would look much more authentic. It got the job done for the costume, I have like 10.00$ if that in materials. The wool for the jack and pants cost the most, but scraps were used for the hat, I may have some extra as well.

I understand :)

Mmmmh, the keys are not so accurate either... I am looking for one that has all of the correct details on it, only the skeleton look is not too important to me. I believe Gustave key is made of iron.

well please post when you find one anyhow, another name for the keys are mortisse lock or barrel key also note that the keys would be from the 1920-1930's. I'd like to see what you find.

Will let you know, gotta do some more intensive researches for it.

I'd love to find the correct keys for the other hotels too.

I found this one that is a little bit closer from the original. A bit rusty though :p

But what it needs to have it's this oval shape, a thin barrel, with a skeleton end, and also the ring on the barrel has to be near the oval shape of the key. I am not sure about the length of the key, I guess it might be 2 or 3" long? What do you guys think?

Do you have a screen cap handy? I think there was a close up of in one of scenes. Most all the keys look to be an antique brass finish. Also most skeleton keys are mear 3" and over for that proportion. The rust is not an issue as much as the pitting, even if you paint it, the pitting will show better to hold out for a better surface. Maybe have a local shop dip it. Or maybe the correct finish will show up.

I like this key Emma. Remove the rust and it'll be close enough (guess it'll be pure luck to find an exact match...)

The problem with this key is that it's a bit over 5" which is a little bit too big I presumed... But it's definitely something more or less like this.

Ok, finished M Gustave Suite key (made it the cheapest way...). As to the key, i'll stick to this one until I find (if) a more accurate one.

Here's the process (sorry for the poor phone quality pics)

Did you just use white vinyl on black acyrlic?
That is a great cheap way to do it. I may have to do that!

See item 151490278524 on ebay, that was what I was thinking as far as getting tags, but locally to me.
