The Ghost And The Darkness Flintlock

Hi, I'm not sure how many people know of this movie. It came out in 1994 and starrs Micheal Douglas and Val Kilmer. In it, Douglas's character has a neat double-shot flintlock pistol (atleast I think thats what it is) and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the gun he has.

Re: The Ghost And The Darkness

All I remeber about that movie is that lions meticulously hunt down and kill everyone, and its based on a true story. Nice flintock gun, prob could find a close replica around.

Not a flintlock, a percussion. And the pistol was probably a Howdah pistol, looks like the barrels were turned sideways though. Howdah pistols were single (well, double) shot percussion muzzleloaders that fired a HUGE lead ball or mini ball. If you look at the 4th pic you posted, you can see the ramrod stowed under (behind in this case) the barrels.

Well, I said double because near the end of the movie he fires it once, and then again a few seconds later before reloading.

Yeah, it's a double shot as it has two barrels, but I don't think you can fire them both at the same time. Nor do I think you would want to :confused

You might check out "The Man-Eaters of Tsavo" byLieutenant Colonel John Henry Patterson. He's the guy that Val was playing. He might have some info on the guns. Whether they're the ones from the movie, I don't know.

i absolutely love this movie, but up until now never realized there was anything special about the gun. it has to have been at least 10 years since ive last seen it.
