The Fly telepods

What ever happened to the Fly telepods from the Gross, Gruesome & Grotesque
show in Universal Studios Orlando?
I always wanted to build full size version and incorperate one of those black and white photo machines into it.

Were these Orlando telepods the ones from Fly II, or were they made up for the show?

I had thought the original Fly telepods were destroyed after the film, so new ones had to be made for the sequel.

Universal had a pair of pods but i don't think they were screen used ones. They were incorperated into the show. I think that show was closed a few years ago. It was a very cool show. It also had a couple mechanical American werewolf in London transformation heads. But the best part was the telepods with the fly lunging forward out of one.

As an expert in all things Fly-related, allow me to provide some detail:

Going by various sources, it appears that there were four Telepod props constructed for The Fly:

1. Telepod 1.

2. Telepod 2.

3. Telepod 2 (damaged), used in the final sequence in the movie, where the front of the pod is disintegrated.

4. Telepod 3/prototype.

Telepods 1 and 2 have some slight variations in detail, and are not identical, as some people believe. And, of course, the prototype version has the solid door and additional "clunky" components.

Various sources have said that the pods were all destroyed after filming, but this is apparently not the case. Cronenberg himself says in the 2005 DVD's audio commentary that one of the surviving pods ended up in production designer Carol Spier's backyard, and has been refurbished and featured in exhibits of props from his films.

The Telepods built for The Fly II (allegedly based on a single photograph of the originals) have several major differences in detailing when compared to the originals. In the 2005 DVD commentary for Fly II, Chris Walas seems unsure as to what exactly happened to them after filming.

The pods seen in the Universal show--which I have some photos of--are not screen-used. They were recreations based on photos of the originals (and, a few years back, the movie pods' reference photos and the blueprints for the Universal versions were up for sale on Ebay--I'm still kicking myself for not getting them).

Now that sideshow has the Fly license, and is releasing some awesome Brundlefly and Martinfly statues--

--I really, really, really hope that some scaled-replica Telepods are in the pipe.

Not to revive a dead post, but I have had some interest lately in a Fly project and I could have SWORN I read about someone building one of these and it included pics. My search has yielded no results.

I've wanted one of these for a long time. I know Universal left some telepods outside and the elements destroyed them.

If someone were to pull a kit - I'd be down for one!

Sideshow's Brundlefly maquette is really neat, but I'm disappointed that they didn't do any other Fly products. I'm not even sure that they still have the license.

As an uber-fan of that movie (and the entire series, as well), I'd love to see more products. Dioramas, mini-busts, that sort of thing.

I think one of those would be very cool to have as a phone booth in your house. :)
