The Flash- An Original Armour Design

So since I suffer from MPS (Multiple Projects Syndrome) I decided to start a new side project- the Flash. This should give you a good look at what I'm aiming for.
Legsstart.jpg

Since there are no Pepakura files for the Flash (my god I wish) I'm going to combine a Captain America helmet with Iron Man's jaw and ears with a few tweeks here and there to create the cowl. Also I'm using Doctor Doom legs, Iron Man chest. I haven't decided on the boots, shoulders, back and bracers yet. Here's the Captain America cowl almost finished.

I haven't cut the ears where the leather would be to make as much space as possible. I'm also going to be using an Iron Man neck piece. Debating what to do with the ear pieces or add the Wally West white visors. Thoughts?

Hi ! Your start look good ;)
You are on a marvel section, move your thread on dc section
Good luck ! Impatient to see the result

I have no idea how to move it, my brain hurts trying to figure it out. As for an update...

I used Iron Man's jaw and Captain America's helmet and I gotta say it looks great. I also made test ears and I'm loving it so far. I'm going to start the paper mache process tomorrow and smooth out the helmet and also use cardboard in between the layers to add strength and any detail. I'm excited for this project now. The foam under the nose is temporary and I may need to go back to fix some sizing issues but other that that... woo hoo

Suppose you folks be wantin an update. Well sorry I couldn't do it last night, after I finished work on the helmet I just fell flat on my face asleep. This is the helmet after layer two of the paper mache. I also glued some white paper around the edges of the corrugated cardboard to hide the ugly sides. I think I'm going to add some mesh to the mask because I'm ginger and can pull off a Wally West Flash better than a Barry Allen. Thanks for the easy tutorial by the way Jeck :) The reason the back is open is so i can fit my head inside the mask. I will be adding nylon straps to the back with cardboard attached so I can seal the back. The nylon will also have velcro at the bottom to attach to the neck piece which is the piece I'm working on next. It's the next piece I need to start so I can finally seal off the back. I'll be working on more layers today. I'm aiming for eight layers in total. I have no idea what to do about the ears. I'm going to pull off these ones for the rest of the paper mache but I don't know if I want them made from cardboard. 3d printing isn't an option because I don't have one and I hear it isn't cheap. Suggestions would be welcome. Oh and the pop art photo was just for the lols.

So as of updates I've cut up a coke bottle and added clear lenses to the eyes. I've also discovered some things in some shops that I'll definitely be purchasing soon for the ears. I don't think I'll be going for white Wally West eyes but clear eyes, my only logical reason for this is that I want to see completely clearly and if I was a speedster this would protect my eyes. I don't have pictures because I'm in a different house at the moment. I'll probably complete the ears on Sunday/Monday. I need to know how much space the Iron Man neck piece covers before I can make the back pieces to cover the back of my head. Going strong, I promise more photographs tomorrow.

Cullen Cosplay has a Pretty good Flash cowl unfolded for foam on his tumblr.

That looks awesome, I wonder why I never found it. I'll definitely be making that one as well so I can switch between them both for different events. Thanks a lot for that.

As for an update on mine:

Not sure if you can clearly see the eyes pieces because of the bad lighting but this is the stage that it's at. I never got to go buy the objects for the ears so I'll have to wait when I definitely go up tomorrow. I'll also be starting the neck tomorrow so I'll have to put the helmet aside when I'm finished the ears. I might also buy some red and gold paint just to have rather than go looking for it later.

So sorry for no updates I've been busy with a last minute Christmas dash. I've made the ears and they look great, I made them a lot bigger than the test ones. I've temporarily glued them on, I have the gold paint ready to go. .I also painted the helmet with red poster paint so I could see all the mistakes that I have to go back and repair. The only other reason for red is I wanted a tease to what it would look like when it's done. So just a lot of smoothing around the edges and adding paper mache to the ears and then I'll begin work on the neck piece.

Nice! I'm working on my on custom flash too! Here's my thread! : http://www.therpf.com/f77/flash-costume-build-thread-230814/?highlight=the+flash
your design looks great I'm going for a more modern kid flash-esque look mixed with the cw. Ho do you plan on making the suit?

Yea dude I've been keeping track of your thread and I'm really impressed! If your look at the first image in my thread you can see that the under suit is red spandex so I'll be using a red SKINZ outfit I have laying around. As for the armour on top I'm taking different pepakura files and printing them out, making them and then cutting and gluing new pieces on to make it more like the Flash. For example I used Captain America's helmet and Iron Man's jaw for the Flash helmet. I'm also using an Iron Man chest piece and cutting the ribs off and making the hole in the centre bigger. The shoulder pieces in the original image wouldn't be good for running so I'm going for Master Chief style shoulder pieces only more streamlined. I would love a Kid-Flash Costume for my brother so I'll be keeping an eye on all the stuff you do on your thread and I might 'borrow' a few of your ideas... ;)

look up a page called "Pepakura Library" on facebook dude....they have some Flash files on there :)

Wow, when I looked up 'Flash pepakura files' on Google it must have give me back results without the words 'flash' pepakura' or 'files' in it. :) Thanks a lot dude. As for updates I've barely been working at it because of the amount of work I've been doing for family and university. I have to buy black ink for my printer to print the templates for the neck which should be very soon. Slow and steady wins the race.

Sorry for no more updates but I've been up to my eyes in work. Tomorrow my town opens again so I can buy ink for my printer so expect updates soon.

Thanks a lot man! Those are some really great ideas. I'm not sure what I'll do for the under suit but it'll be armored with big pieces of craft foam. I'm thinking of changing the ears on my suit
Suggestions on my thread would be awesome. And lastly feel free to use any of my ideas! :)

So I finally got ink for my printer- hoping it fits in otherwise I'm going to blow a fuse. Expect updates tonight because I'm doing the neck piece which should finally let me finish the helmet. I also found gold spray paint so I've ripped the ears off and once I put a bit of paper-mache on them I'll whack on a layer to see what it'll look like. I've also noticed that a lot of the paper mache on the helmet has lifted slightly and I think I want to use mod-roc (plaster of paris strips) if I can to smooth it all out. Advice on that would be welcome.

Told you there would be an update. This is the neck piece just glued together. I used Dali Lomo's (on Youtube) video tutorial on how to make the neck with the zipper. I also had to add an extra line at the top of the neck to increase the height a bit. It turns out the more I looked at the eyes the more I hated them so I removed them. And the ears being removed leaves a nice cardboard circle to fill in. I also made the jaw smaller and have to find a way to tighten the sides so it's more flush against my face which will probably involve cutting the jaw off and shrinking it. For the chest piece which is the next piece on the list I've had a change of heart since I've been looking at the original 3d model. if you look closely at the chest you can see a hexagonal shape so for that reason I'm going to use The Dark Knight Batman's chest piece which I got as a .pdf from Dali Lomo's video on how to make the chest piece. As of what I'm working on now it's the back of the head, I really wish I had a polystyrene head to help me but I'll make do. I also need to fix the eye hole position since I look cross-eyed :p I'm really happy with the progress so far.

Sorry for no updates folks, been sick as all hell and I have last minute university work to do so I've been powering through that. It has given me plenty of time to think though. I'm going to cut at the jaw again to make it more angular at the side like the Grant Gustin Flash. I'm having trouble creating the back of the helmet since I don't have a mannequin to work off. I think I might have to grab my SKINZ outfit and stuff it full of news paper to compensate. I also have to trim the sides of the neck piece since I don't get a lot of shoulder movement. Let's hope this sickness jumps ship so i can get back to work.

Trying to keep this updated as much as possible to stop the thread getting stale. I've started to draw with a pencil all the cuts I have to make and my brother has agreed to be my human mannequin so I can work on the back of the head. Expect an update within the next few days.

So I've changed the helmet a bit. I've cut the eyes and changed a few other things. i had to cut the side of the jaw because it was loose on the left side. Sorry no pictures, I'll upload some tomorrow.
