The eternal collecting

This topic may not be directly about "A" particular SS model...but about them in general. My question involves the finding and accumulation of the donor kits. Was wondering everyone else's experiences, helpful finds, hints, discoveries along the way since starting collecting for SS models?
I realize we might not want to give some our "secrets" in fear of them being used "against" us...but perhaps we can speak in general terms.

I'll start:
-flea markets at summertime. the outdoor vendors seem to bring out more little stuff (like old vintage kits) and have a higher likelihood of finding a nice kit.
-rural model shops. seems the more country you are, you'll more likely to enjoy auto kits...and these guys collect the old stuff. if you're looking for old AMT, ERTL, or MPC stuff, these guys may have it (even though they have bottles of testor's paint from the 80's).

I usually save up for the pilgrimage to Akihabara in Tokyo... a little challenging to get to, but jeez, it's lousy with EVERYTHING. Some stores sell that top fuel dragster for $300 like you see on eBay, and some sell it for $50. This hobby is all about timing and luck, in my experience.

Don't forget to check out Leonardo's when you're there.
