Thanks guys. Roger I have a lead in with the bottle I think you will like and Kirks Tricorder.

Steve

P.S. I'm going to do a simple test today of the bridge behind me in one of the short takes.

Words fail me.... Every time I sit and look at your threads and watch your movies I leanr a lot of new things and am blown away by your work, skill and experience......

Here is a little peak behind the scenes of our little shoot.
The actual shoot was done at 1080p and we used a good sound recorder not reflected in this video.
Next up is shooting the Big E model herself.

I'm not sure when I've ever seen the star of anything start his role by doing a master-class in prosthetic makeup! That was a great look for your Romulan. His acting doesn't seem half bad either. Very excited to see the finished result.

Justin is real good and you can believe he's the Son of the commander from Balance of Terror. He even sounds like him and cultivated the voice and mannerisms.

I've been at Digital fusion, Premiere and Lightwave coming up with a sure fire system for matting into the bridge so I can proceed ahead with the many shots and angles.

It takes matching the camera angle and lighting of the practical shoot to the CGI set in Lightwave. I used the CGI chair to get my distance and angle the same, match lighting. Then I would remove the CGI chair. run off a single frame and place that into Digital and pull a comp. I'd keep doing this until I was happy then had Lightwave run off the background animation.

The clip test is 8 seconds long and I hope to post it tonight.

Here are a couple of pictures, one a frame test and the other shows the Digital fusion set up which I prefer over AE for comps hands down. UltraKeyer1 rocks!

Wow! That looks fantastic!

Which is completely insufficient a compliment considering how much work you have put into it.

Your Romulan actor does have a little resemblance to Mark Lenard come to think of it. I think the hair goes a long way to selling it as well.

Your matting and color match are spot on, but looking at the flatter perspective of your chairs arm versus the more downward or wider angle view of the Bridge behind you, I wonder if you aren't using too wide a virtual camera lens or are tad too high on the virtual camera angle? Not really terribly off, just my observation. I think you can get away with it, but maybe tilt up just a tad so as not so much floor behind you?

Now the big question, your old-school Big E model will do a space battle with a virtual 3D Romulan ship and the old-school model blows it out of space? There's something of a sub-text in that I would think! ;)

Thanks. If my set is correct, then when I looked at it and matched the angle with the CGI chair it was exact to this. All I did was remove the virtual chair and drop mine in. But real isn't always the way and cheating is often done to get t right to the eye. ;)

Thanks Dbuck!

Steve

Well, looking at the top of the railing that angle seems to match the top perspective of the real chair arms. Probably what throws me is seeing such a widescreen shot as well.

TOS was a world in 4:3 after all!
;)

I look forward to the sequel when Kirk finds Rosie's dog hair on his Captain chair.

"NEEEEIIIILLLLLL! NEEEEIIIILLLLLL!"

P.S. You got that amber, Kirk hair-light spot on, a detail only a lighting guy could love I suppose, but I noticed. Very nice detail!

I gotta tell ya...that looks pretty darn convincing. Hard to believe that you did this in your garage...its a much more seamless effect than I've seen in really massive budget films. The lighting and blending of practical and CGI elements is seamless...hard to believe this is just a test.

Awesomesauce! If you ever need an arch-villian, or Commodore that looks like a cross between Sean Connery and Antony Hopkins, or an old Tony Stark, let me know... I'll send you a screen test. LOL!

Be sure to watch full frame and 720p. Has full sound too. Don't blink. I'm working on Drexler's scene tomorrow. He sent me his green screen shot cameo today.

Paul used clips he had on the old IPad to match lighting so your are right on!

The reason I haven't posted anything is that I've been sitting in stunned silence with complete brainlock from the awesomeness of this. Dayum but you and your team do great work!
