The End of Master Replicas?

It's the same staff question thats the issue. I would think the talaent is not going to be part of the new company, they are going to take the check and move on. Just my opinion.

I wonder if that means that people will be able to order things from another country without their customs agents confiscating them? ;)

Merging does not mean the end of Master Replicas - The company could still operate under that name, by the same staff. At a corporate level, there would be budgeting, planning, and decision making made by others, perhaps, but Master Replicas doesn't have to go away or give up any licenses or planned products, necessarily. ABC and Miramax aren't called Disney, and they don't just produce cartoons about animals.

Yeah...I think the Chicken Little syndrome seen here is QUITE A BIT premature.

For the most part, Corgi doesn't need inroads to the licenses that MR has - they are already doing business (and have for years) with almost all of the same companies (Star Wars, Disney, Lord of the Rings, etc.) In fact, they've got some licenses (as I mentioned, BOND) that MR would probably be a good match to make replicas for. One of the first toy cars I had as a little boy was a Corgi James Bond Aston Martin.

Also, movies are still being made and new licenses are still viable, otherwise QMX would never have been formed in the first place. That is, unless you believe people like to throw money away on new start-ups that have little chance for profit if the idea is that MR has milked the market for all it's worth already.

I'm sure the merger will change procedures and planning at MR, but there's a good chance (fingers crossed - as long as they don't decided to skimp on quality in order to cut costs) that a lot of the business for the new owners won't even be seen by their customers. I've heard an equal number of horror stories and success stories in regards to mergers, and making a guess at which one this particular joining will end up as is totally premature in my opinion. There's simply way too much that is unknown to pronounce this a good or bad thing.

Companies don't buy other so they can shut them down definately. No money in doing so and this is a business. By the same token businesses make mistakes and the history of Corgi take overs is not that hot. So it will be interesting to see what the 6 months to year outlook is for MR. For current orders, I would guess there should be no worries, the R&D expense, tooling and production cost are already paid. The first rule in restructuring is not to make quick changes without first getting to know why things as they are. Were this can go wrong is how immediate does Corgi want to make changes at MR and how aggressive the managers aregoing to be. In the past they have been very agressive in making changes in other mergers.

Master Replicas Inc. isn't going anywhere.

No one need worry about their Enterprises, their Falcons, or any other favorite prop they may have ordered. It's business as usual and work continues apace on the 2008 line-up.

Will there be changes ahead? I'm sure there will. There have been constant changes in the personnel line-up at MR every year since its inception. However with their fifth anniversary just around the corner the company is poised to move forward facing many new, exciting opportunities. Ringing the death knell on MR is misplaced.

Excellent question. Barry - what's the 411 on MR possibly dipping into the Well of Souls?

Mr. Cookson (CEO) chimed in at the Rebelscum forums tonight. He confirmed that the company wasn't going anywhere. He also announced a Chewie Bowcaster and a studio scale Vader TIE fighter in 2007.

:)

Oh, and add a Yoda F/X lightsaber to the list for 2007.

http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?...o=&fpart=3&vc=1

Cookson just confirmed that pretty much MR will be left to it's own devices.

Reading some of the financial info in that Rebelscum thread, I wouldn't be surprised that despite keeping the more internationally known (for decades now) name of "Corgi" for the merged companies (the MR division will still be called Master Replicas), MR is getting the better part of the deal. Corgi gets a more modern - higher end product line filling their factories and MR gets the benefit of those factories (and a staff overseeing far east manufacturing) the Corgi name/history, and some of their licenses they don't already have. Corgi's stock value has been going downhill for sometime, and losing money. Corgi has nowhere to go but up, and that is most likely possible with their brand awareness and some marketing/product help from people like Cookson. He's been credited with turning Wham-O around in a similar situation.

While the terms of the merger are currently private, I wouldn't be suprised to learn that MR was the one giving Corgi a hand up out of their current slump and are betting long-term that the Corgi brand will end up in a growth pattern. I could be wrong but....

No worries folks it's business as usual from my communicaions with them and product hasn't quit being shipped for prototypes etc.

You know guys...I wouldn't count MR out yet...
If in fact they're being bought out by Corgi, that might be a good thing...
Corgi is a strong company that's been around a long time...

We might just see an INCREASE in quality:)

I don't see why they wouldn't still makew the items they have planned...the company has to make something , right?

Might just see a pulse rifle yet.

I'd like to see some more MIB stuff...as well as Galactica...and maybe some Star Trek...I heard they were going to do the OS Hypo.

I hadn't actually noticed that fans had stopped building.

MR are not the enemy :)
