The End of Master Replicas?

The real question is are they being bought because they are doing so well, or because they are NOT doing well.

It can go either way in a buy out or "merger".

If Master Replicas bit off more they can chew then it could be the end of them, but it could be a good deal also.

I took this statement "The company, which will retain the Corgi name, will produce a wide variety of product categories," to mean that Master Replicas was the big fish doing the main merge and took on Corgi thus letting them keep the Corgi name.
Unless I'm reading that wrong.

I wonder if MR ever really broke successful with the non-SW lines, the well of which is starting to run dry.

I read it as Corgi was the "big fish" swallowing up Cards Inc. and MR :confused Mergers are a tough call from the outside looking in....hell considering I was on the bad end of one this year (laid off due to merger) I was on the inside and it still was hard to see things coming............

Either way I'm sure it will change the future of MR as in mergers the "big fish" incorporates thier line of business.

If things do go South post-merger...At least they got some of the Holy Grail items to market first...

Just an observation...

But I think Cookson, the big cheese there, has a record of starting companies then selling them once he can make a good profit off the deal. I may be wrong, but I thought he had at least one other company he cashed in after it became successful.

Nothing wrong with that...but I wonder what Corgi will end up doing with the company. They do have licenses for some cool properties - namely JAMES BOND.. It reminds me of how that other die-cast company bought out Playing Mantis and I think that one of other model companies had the same thing happen to them. Seems like a trend for these toy car makers to go after a business with a similar marketing demographic.

I wish them continued luck.

My first reaction is somebody got out while the getting was good...:(

With the Rockateer, Vader, Clonetrooper helmet problems,
maybe MR had gotten into a little bind.

Only time will tell.

aww crap.

Love Corgi. Hate MR.

I'm a Batmobile collector, and I've been a big fan of Corgi's new line since they got back into it a couple years ago. I grew up with Corgis. However, I have sworn off MR products from the get-go. The one time I broke down and decided to bite the bullet and buy something from MR (blue Clone helmet), well...........you see where that went.

Now Corgi will be selling the props? Well, they have an established reputation to protect, so........maybe they can fix some of the problems MR has had. But I'll believe it when I see it.

I saw the MR merger news, and paid it no mind. I didn't expect to see Corgi involved in it. Not my favorite news.

I wonder if Lucas will approve of the merger for their license. I sense new possibilities for QMx.

This is the end. This is a cash out by the pricipals of MR. Believe me, I know how corporate mergers like this work. MR is getting a nice deal and they are taking thier $ and running. I would do the same thing. This whole biz is a long term loser no matter what. The talent will leave, the quality will fall, and the end is nigh, mark my words. Congrats to all the pricipals at MR, well done.

Doubtful. MR's license has been very profitable for LFL, and there's no reason to suspect them being merged with a long established toy brand would meet with any disapproval from LFL higher-ups. Seeing how Corgi's corporate headquarters is now in Hong Kong, it might make things easier for production, but I wonder how it will effect their stateside employees.

I don't know for certain.
Take a hard look at past mergers with Corgi and see what has happened. The track record on other merged companies is quite telling.

I wonder how this will affect the prices of MR items on eBay or whatever? Since they will be items from when "MR" was MR and not this new company. This better not raise the already ridiculous prices on some of the items I've been wanting :angry (All the Obi and Luke lightsabers to name a few).

Guy's, this is the end of MR as we know it. MR was founded by fanboys like us who loved the stuff. Corgi is hardly the kind of boutique operation MR is. Any aatempt to spin this is a positive in terms of the quality of product MR has produced is a fantasy. There is no profit in this high end sci fi movie prop biz and the guys at MR have been given the Golden Ticket.

I know that there are sometimes terms put into licenseing deals that the properties cannot be transfered through a buyout. That happend to Wizards of the Coast a couple years back with one of thier aquisitions. I can't remember if it was a Trek game or the Dune one.

My guess is in the short term ( next few months ) the secondary market will boom with the uncertainy. After things has a chance to settle, you will see the market change accordingly. I have a feeling those for the moment that value the prop for monetary purposes are going to be very happy with the announcement.

As for the license clauses, they tend to be very strict in terms of what can be marketed and how. I have to think that this will bring about some changes in licensing agreements short term and long term.
