Yes, Chris. In the closed position, a pivoting weight blocks the little "propellor" and stops the mirror motor from working. In the open position, the pivoting weight falls out of the path of the propellor, allowing it to turn and the motor then is free to turn the mirror. This little propellor is there just for this purpose; it is usually blocked and unblocked by the sliding on-off control for the music box.
