THE chest

Okay did anyone get any pics of the chest itself? I'd love to take some of this scrap wood around the house and make the chest but I was in such awe while watching it that I didn't get my camera phone out fast enough.

I have photos of a replica of the chest on dislay at the Disney Gallery above the ride. It is reported to be made by the film's propmaster.

You mean this Dead Man's Chest? :)

I can e-mail you a sharper picture if you like. That would be an awesome prop.

by all means - I may end up having enough wood for that too who knows lol

and yes that is the chest that I'm looking for. awesome pics. the mechanics of it wouldn't be that hard either, just need the time lol :D hardest part is gonna be the lock on the front... any detail pics of that?

This would be a cool prop. Of course we would need a key to go with it.

that's the plan :D that's also why I want a working locking mechanism.

as I recall the crab's arms move open when the lock is unlocked but I can't remember if that ring actually moves or if it was just part of their flash site...

This one looks like you would have to make a wood buck for each side and top then model the bass relief out of clay take a silicone mold and cast the pieces. Quite a bit of work involved, but ends and top panel sections might be the same so 1 front 1 back 1 side and 1/4 top to model.

Cool.

I would LOVE to see high-detail shots of the stone Aztec chest from the first film...

Anybody have any?

There should be a small replica for sale... I'll check.

-edit-
I've found it (I'm not sure about the accuracy...)

I had my hands on an original, which was made of resin.

My best guess is 16"x 10" x 11".

I was surprised at how small the thing was. I was expecting some thing much larger. Same story with the swords, but then again, Johnny Depp is a small guy. :p

I'm also surprised MR didn't create a replica. This prop is small enough to mass produce.
