The Book of Boba Fett

I'm so torn between holding on to my OT concept of things, vs. the PT-influenced reality that we have in the Mandalorian and BOBF.

For example, I've always strongly resisted buying or assembling a Yoda saber. At the time of the OT, GL was very clear that Yoda as a Jedi Master was a zen-type Force user, and didn't have or use a lightsaber. Being a Jedi Master was equivalent to being a monk. It was a completely different role than a Jedi Knight, and not the next step up.

But now we have these wonderful shows that are reinforcing George's PT-era retcons and it's much harder to resist the idea of Yoda owning a saber when Luke flipping Skywalker in ROTJ garb is holding and talking about it.

Must...resist...

I let the PT sort of be nebulous in my head and make things work the way I can manage them, for instance for you maybe Yoda had a light saber, but that's it, he just had one, because well, you need to teach others with it or something. So you can be flexible that way. Or maybe he started with one and once he becomes master, it goes in a box. For me, I'd much rather do that with the PT than be forced to deal with an inescapable major connection to the ST. If they depict Luke becoming Jake for instance, I can't be flexible there. I'll have to walk away and enjoy what I got up till then.

Man I'm right there with you CessnaDriver . I have a complicated view of the PT. I walked away from SW for 15 years mostly due to it, and only came back for the ST.

But I try to be open. For many in the generation that came after me, that IS their SW, and they only TOLERATE the "slow-swingin" lightsaber duels of the OT.

Also, as much as I like to consider myself an OT purist, I love the original Zahn trilogy, and would be MORE than happy to see elements from it reintroduced to SW canon.

I had no idea who Cad Bane was before the past episode, but I've watched reaction videos of people losing their minds when he appears. That will be me when a 4-eyed lizard appears, Luke feels off, and I yell "ysalamiri!"

I'm right there with CessnaDriver. I feel Yoda had a lightsaber "a long time ago", and probably kept it in good working order for teaching students the basics, but hadn't worn it out in the world in years. I have mental images of the stories of Miyamoto Musashi in later life, where he only carried a wooden practice sword. People would find him to test themselves against him and he'd thoroughly thwack them about the head and shoulders with his stick while they missed every swing.

Barring that I feel we shouldn't have seen him at all in the PT, and kept the reveal for ESB, when we left the theater after seeing AOTC, my friend opined on the fight between Yoda and Dooku that -- besides the Sonic the Hedgehog acrobatics being a bad idea -- Yoda shouldn't have had a lightsaber. His comment was, "Like... Dooku pulls out his lightsaber and says 'This is the only way to resolve this' and Yoda rolls his eyes and drops a building on him".

I don't have a problem with Yoda having a lightsaber, having used it actively centuries ago, still bringing it out to teach Youglings, and keeping it in a box the rest of the time. But then, I also have a problem with Palpatine having a lightsaber and a "Darth" pseudonym...

I think being open and understanding is a good way to operate. You can’t pretend to like things you don’t, but you never know what might capture your interest in the future if you stay open.

I also had a weird relationship with the PT. Disappointed by them like everyone else and dismissed them. Then years later started picking out things I liked over time until I enjoyed them as something almost separate from the OT. And while I didn’t enjoy TLJ or TROS, I now like pretty much all other Star Wars media in one way or another. The live action shows, the spin off movies, the animated shows, the books, etc.

However, when I watch the OT, it’s like nothing else exists. Yoda is not the Yoda from the PT to me. Luke is not Luke from TLJ. I view them the same way I did when I first saw the OT. I can accept those things when watching future shows, but watching the OT puts me in a time capsule. So in a way, I don’t worry too much on how things evolve and change in future media. I try to enjoy the things I like about it if I can, which has turned out to be a lot.

When it comes to Yoda's lightsaber, at first I thought how silly that it's back after they clearly destroyed it in the comics. I read that issue when it came out. Lucasfilm obviously retconned that because they wanted it for Grogu and what ever explanation they give is just back peddling to save face.

Instead of trying to figure out how the lightsaber survived or if there's a second one I think I'd rather just ignore it's existence in the first place and it's return in TBOBF as it's not really central to anything I would consider important and is unflattering to Yoda as others have mentioned. It turns him from a dignified Jedi master into a punchline.

It’s the same trick as pulling out the Graflex in TFA and going, “ooh, aah, remember this? Remember this from before? It’s baaaaaack! It’s back and no one knows how but that’s not important what’s important is that you look at this new character using the old character’s lightsaber!”

Yeah well this whole “Somehow _____ returned” schtick is becoming boring.

Like can we at least think of a good reason before the fans ask questions next time?

That’s what I’m concerned about. They say action adventure, but if he leaves Tatooine then he’s leaving his post and I feel like that would detract from Obi-Wan’s character.
I'm guessing he can skirt into space a bit..he's not "Super Nanny"

So.....

Back on Boba Fett.

Predictions

Cobb is Alive and ready to kick Ass
Garsa slightly crispy and head of Crimson Dawn!

"Luke and R2 arrive and visit Old Ben's Hutt and finds an interesting Book!"
